To the editor:
As a former Lee County School Board Member, I have been disturbed and, at times, outraged by the rapid decline in student achievement and poor decision making over the last four years under the leadership of the current School Board majority (Fisher, Armstrong and Scott). Not only did the Lee County School District drop from being rated as an "A" to a "C" School District, but they overspent their allocated budget by $20-plus million per year with nothing to show for it.
Our students, parents and community members deserve better. "More of the same" won't get us there. Leadership begins at the top with Board Members who understand and can make decisions from successful high level leadership and management experience.
That is why I am endorsing Marilyn Stout to replace Mary Fischer for the District 1 School Board Seat.
Marilyn Stout has a thorough understanding of community needs, having served on several Community Organization Boards and most recently 13 years on the Lee Memorial Health System Board, thus making her an invaluable resource in designing curriculum and programs unique to the local area.
Marilyn Stout is passionate about Quality Schools and is one of the hardest workers I have ever seen. She will do whatever it takes to make us all proud of our schools and bring recognition back to Lee County. Please vote for Marilyn Stout on Aug. 26.
