Carlin "Dolly" M. Melna, 92, of Cape Coral, formerly of Matawan, N.J., passed away Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, in Cape Coral. She was born Oct. 28, 1921, in Coatsville, Pa., to Victor H. and Lavinia Alma Singley, now deceased.
She was a volunteer plane spotter during World War II on the coast of New Jersey. She will always be remembered for being very independent, strong willed and, best of all, for her ability to help others in their time of need.
She is survived by her two sons, John B. (Terri) Melna of Cape Coral and James R. (Barbara) Melna of North Clarendon, Vt.; two sisters, Cressie Phillipps of Rome, N.Y.; and Dixie (Ed) Schmitz of Keyport, N.J.; as well as four grandchildren, Jennifer Cunningham, Susan Melna, James B. Melna and Robert Melna; and five great-grandchildren, Tyler, Aiden, Megan, Morgan and Chelsea.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John E. Melna, in 1980; a sister, Dorothy Pierce; brothers, Richard Hawkey and Allen Collins; and two grandsons, John P. and Jeffrey Melna.
No formal services are planned at this time.
