Baker eases past Venice 7-3

A much anticipated early season rematch with Venice became a demonstration of compassion at Ida Baker Friday night.

Baker's girls' soccer team pounded Venice 7-3 at Bulldogs Stadium. The two teams played an early season match last year with the Bulldogs winning 2-1.

"They had some girls banged up and the coach wanted to hold them out," said Bulldogs coach Dave Trepkowski. "He brought up some JV players so we played JV players more than we normally do. We didn't need to run the score up on them and they appreciated that."

Seniors Shannon Pearl and Monique Elliott, both with key roles in the Bulldogs' Class 4A state championship last season, knocked in two goals apiece Friday night. Sophomore Gabby Morales added two goals and Marcela Montoya one goal. Goalkeeper Angela Christiano made six saves.

The Bulldogs (5-0) play at Lehigh Monday night.
