The Cape Coral Police Department SWAT team competed in the annual "Region 6 SWAT Competition."
Eleven teams from Southwest Florida competed in SWAT related events and other tests of endurance on Saturday. The competition, hosted by the Sarasota Sheriff's Office, included the Sarasota, Collier, Lee, Highlands, Manatee and Charlotte county sheriff's offices, Cape Coral, Fort Myers, Sarasota and Naples police departments and FBI.
The CCPD team took second place, missing first place by one point. In addition, Lt. Jack Fulop was presented with the "Top Sniper" award for his performance in the competition.

"Our SWAT team always performs admirably and consistently finishes at the top of the pack in the various SWAT competitions in which we compete each year," team leader Sgt. Carlos Mena said. "I see the same performance and dedication from the Cape Coral SWAT team during weekly operations and practices."
"I also wish to thank every officer, detective, supervisor and civilian staff member at CCPD who work extremely hard, picking up the slack when our SWAT team is serving a warrant, responding to a call out, training or competing," he added. "Your efforts make it possible."
The top three teams were:
- First place: Sarasota County Sheriff's Office "Gold Team"
- Second place: Cape Coral Police Department
- Third place: Sarasota County Sheriff's Office "Green Team"
