@jjsulli: our unions are great. They are there to protect our city workers from greedy, angry, thoughtless, predatory 'ask wholes' like you. Have YOU ever faced a criminal with a gun? Have you ever been injured in the line of duty? Have yu ever retrieved a dead body from a car crash or a canal? Ever done CPR on a 2-year-old? Handled the body of someone burned to a crisp in a fire? Every seen the photos? Know what burned flesh smells like? know what a dead body smells like after two weeks undiscovered? NO. You just get to sit and find fault and vilify those that do! You are as low as a hair-plug in a drain!

@johngaul: you miserable piece of cow dung! Our corrupt unions? Who the heck do you think you are talking about? This is not Chicago. Our employees are the most honest, trustworthy, dependable workers in Florida. "Suspicion of others often stems from an accurate knowledge of ourselves." How corrupt are YOU!

Sully....not sure what you are implying... why attack the unions again on this issue.. doesn't make any sense. Haven't heard any unions chime in on the assessment issue. It's all been the chosen few who don't want it and couldn't convince all on the dais. Guess we have to wait now don't we.

So the nimrods on council think that delaying the implementation of a flawed and crappy ordinance makes sense. Well just shows what has been elected in this city.

To CapeCoralCuestions...keep trying to convice yourself as you climb up on your ladder truck and run down to Publix. The unions have screwed this city over for years. Bloated pensions, kelly days and every other manner of grift and graft. No heros in any union I know of. So last time you bought yourself a council. Will not be that way this year. I will settle for 4 to 4 votes. Especially if it gets McGrail's arse off the dias.

There you go. You know the rules about line item veto. He has never attempted to use it for whatever reason. Just no. Yes, he brings it before council for the out of City expenses Do you really think anyone on Council would say no to represent our City???Yes, former Mayor Feichthaler and many other Mayors did it the same way. Sorry, this Mayor did not even attempt to represent us on this very serious issue.

Lolita: OK the Mayor has a line item veto. He can also be over ruled by, I believe, a 2/3 majority vote. Also, is he supposed to spend his own money to attend these meetings? Any time someone from council attends meetings outside of the Cape, it is usually brought before council. It is done that way, to authorize attendance and expenses to be paid by the city. Mayor Feichthaler was also reimbursed for expenses and his attendance was brought to council first.

@johngalt: you said, A couple of council meetings, give the moaners three minutes each, and we’re done." That was definitely the mantra of the Rode Ahead Gang and your use of the "WE'RE" indicates that you were one of them. BWwaahaahaahaa!

Mayor has line item veto power on the budget.

How much time before they decided to go? Saw several articles about meetings within our 4 boundaries involved at which they planned a meeting. Exact time don't know. But we had no representation at those meetings either, however, we have had plenty to say in the newspapers, etc. about the discharges. Sorry. The Mayor is the head....his responsibility to represent us. Eric Feichthaler, a Mayor here, represented us all over the state. He had no trouble keeping on top of things.

Lolita: How much notice was given on the DC hearing? The mayor can't just up and attend it either. Why was the hearing and attendance by someone from the city not brought up at a council meeting? You seem bent on blaming the mayor for everthing that is wrong with this city. How about you come to the realization that he has one vote out of 8 on city council. He also has no veto power.

Did you notice what City had no representation by its Mayor in DC on the environmental issue, Lake O?? Nice. He does a lot of mud slinging at others, but stays within the boundaries of the City, as if we are not impacted by the water flow. Sully is a joke.

Small business is not welcomed in Kape Koral, this is a fact. The corrupt public unions could care less when we have a council that votes to levy more tax on property outside of our state constitution. Why should they be business friendly? Why try to attract more jobs when you can just levy more taxes? Why be accommodating to those wishing to invest in our community for their own selfish greed? It is so messy and tiring to be nice to people when you can just raise their taxes and ignore them. A couple of council meetings, give the moaners three minutes each, and we’re done. That is the union way!

Sullivan recently deliberately avoided TWO huge meetings regarding the Lake O water releases, one of the biggest threats to our environment and economy. Sullivan has spent 4 years making a fool out of himself and the Cape. Failing to appear for events, sleeping through meetings, threatening County Commissioners and stomping out of meetings! He and his buddies have made this city a laughing stock from the Keys to Ocala! He has many times publicly accused employees of wrong-doing, proved incorrect and not once apologized for his comments. “I don’t get mad I get even.” Seems to be Mayor’s Motto!

Chris Leetz was fired from several jobs and censured by the entire Florida Firefighters Association. His habit of leaving meetings and chambers and his many absences, missing important votes, can no longer be tolerated nor can his vicious insults to citizens. Rick Williams has had no ideas of how he could improve on what McGrail has done for the north Cape—Williams is merely a RAG plant. David Headd says: Living in District #1 during all of my time in Cape Coral has created a special affection for this area and since it is the oldest part of the city, it is going to need special attention. He’s complaining about spending money on infrastructure while advocating that more money be spent in downtown Cape, a hypocrite and a RAG.

Shannon you know as well as the rest of us that the unions DID NOT get a raise and have not HAD a raise in over 6 years. The unions have, as you know, taken pay DECREASES over those years. In return for NOT getting raises again this year, unions settled for a one-time bonus payment which not all employees received. That makes you an idiot or a liar.

PAY ATTENTION! McGrail was against the sign ordinance as written and voted accordingly! While I believe we do need to improve the signage, we also need to understand that different businesses definitely do need different types of regulation for their signs.
