Sawicki a viable candidate worthy of consideration

June 21, 2013

To the editor: This is a response to those who apparently without much thought have dismissed Marni Sawicki’s candidacy. Let me point out that frontrunners are not automatic shoe-ins....

@lightswitch: "and you can't blame the FAB 5 for inequities that go back to GO BOND JOE." No we can't, but we can blame them for their own orchestrated buffonery, like spendng thousands of taxpayer dollars on a MWH campaign riddle that went no where...Sullivan & Deile suing the Cape over the UEP methodology, dropping the suit and costing taxpayers thousands in legal fees and staff time, leaving millions of dollars of bio-solids equipment to sit and waste, stopping the UEP and costing the rate payers thousands of dollars in unnecessary rates, using switch tactics to use thousands of tax payer dollars in infrastructure money, for budget costs which now requires taxpayer dollars to replace, instead of repair, roads, vehicles and equipment...And the list goes on and on. The RAGs were not the solution, but the cause of a malignancy, that was only remedied by the removal of the tumors via the November 2011 election. The rest of the tumors will be removed this November. Do I

Lolita speaks of getting in her way! She and those like her can't get out of their own way! Forward? Where is the Academic Village? Regional Mall? Parking Garage? Development at Santa Barbara & Veterans? The song by Peter, Paul and Mary say it where have all the flowers gone.

Morons like you and your so called friends. Where have all the developers gone!

Can't even keep interest in a parking garage in what you call a downtown!

Disgraceful and you can't blame the FAB 5 for inequities that go back to GO BOND JOE.

Where is the Major League Baseball Stadium? Oh too much traffic. Only games in Feb & Mar.? What about off season and the investment fans make on houses, condo? Ft Myers out maneuvered this city in the early 1990's for MLB.

Cape Coral never even made a whimper in the late 1990's for the 11th state University.

Go stick FORWARD up your hat!

You developed one of the highest Taxed municipalities in the state of Florida. Congratulations MORONS!

Bobbie I am so encouraged by your opinion. Let's just let this city's direction or I should say Misdirection play out. I already see what the clowns running the show you know the 6 of the 6-2 vote have done.

Watch for more foreclosure due to many here not able to keep up with the Taxes.

Say what you will it offends me not and I look forward to your words beginning after the first rounds of 7% of charges on kilowatt hours on the Lee County Electric bill especially if we experience an cold Jan, Feb, and Mar.. Then when the Apr, may, Jun, and especially Jul,Aug, & Sep. Followed in Nov. by normal advalorem Taxes due to valuation increases not to mention the non advalorem Fire Assessment, Storm water, and solid waste taxes! Bobbie tell us what your opinion is then. A STEP CLOSER TO AN INSOLVENT CITY. It can charge what it will but when it can't collect what will they have. Lee County Electric will be the first to begin to experience shutoffs and revenue deficits! Wait and see B

Finally got a second to read through the comments on the letters. So much to comment on but Ill only say this. To Dimbulb, I seem to recall then Commissioner Coy igniting the first fires for the VA Clinic. I'll add that you are very accusatory, negative and mean... also, not very well educated in political matters.

One point to note is that the personnel numbers provided are FTE - full time equivalent. The reduction could be greater than 27% with the elimination of PT and contract positions.

I'm a numbers person; I like to visually see trends so I have pulled a lot of data from the CAFRs. At the peak in 2007, the City reported 1,918 FTE employees, which equated to 1 employee per 86 residents. In 2012, the lowest year, the City reported 1,485 FTE which amounts to 1 employee per 104 residents. I think that does demonstrate that efficiencies have definitely been made and the City is doing more with less.

It's not about "catching up", 90% of any campaign is name and face recognition, (as sorry as that is, it's true). Many a good politician with brilliant ideas has lost simply due to the fact their name and face was not readily recognized by the electorate come voting day. She needs to get out there, it's called logic.

It will probably be very easy for Ms. Sawicki to "catch up with the others". The other candidates with the Mayor told us they have a plan to move the City forward (no explanation of the plan, elect me and then I will work on it), two want to repeal taxes, but gave no plan as to how they think they can do it, and one who has been in office for over 3 years wants 4 more years to "complete his goals". So I guess she will have no problem telling us what her views are etc. I look forward to hearing her in public venue.

As far a Candidate Sawicki is concerned, she just may be the most qualified for the seat, but to this point no one can really say....BECAUSE SHE HASN'T STEPPED OUT TO INFORM US OF HER INTENTS, VISION, AND POSITIONS ON EXISTING SITUATIONS. Which is my original point when I entered the first post to this LTE. You want the job? Get out there and tell us why you should have it, campaign season is short, very short. Times a wastin......

Hmmmmmm, ok Switchy, looks like the big difference between the two of us is that I can admit when I'm wrong. However, employees have been reduced by over a 2 to 1 ration as compared to population decline. So, as I said, your argument holds absolutely no water. Just like your claim of median home price here in Florida, just like so many other claims you make which have no basis in fact.

McClain made an interesting comment at the meeting today.

"If the council does not agree with the direction the residents want the city to take the council will override that decision.

Guys like him have to go. Almost makes one feel why vote. But most know a large majority of the residents have seen enough will be at the polls and won't put his thought process on the dais unions or no unions.

Lolita who gets the credit for buying equipment to the tune of $15 million with no where to use it? YOU?

Nice job.

Go check with the board of realtors here and find out why they are not keeping up with the rest of the state or county.

I see the build out is just on the horizon or is that a mirage. Yes it is a mirage.

Everyone knows the stuffed pasta did the VA deal all by herself. Just ask her or just let her tell you.

What the stuffed pasta did do was BEG for a swim complex that was as big a scam as she is not willing to tell anyone about.

Look at the 8 years she held office and how much she helped waste.

Ok Switchy, the employee reduction is only 27%, I stand corrected. However, the population has decreased 12%. So, as you can see you're argument still holds no water.......as usual.

PSSST. Don't tell anyone we would not want the city to LOOK BAD. Hide it, don't correct it, enable it to continue!

Investors don't have to read this web site, read or listen to media they have watched for years and know for sure.

Listen to Erbrick she still covers up for the city as she did on the Finance Advisory Committee she helped sink.

Companies that do business like this are reported to the Better Business Bureau. Politicians like this can only be reported to the MEDIA!!!!!!!

Oh yes they started it and would have had this city pay the full bore was it $51 million?

Just think if it went through like that the city would have scammed another $2.5 million to run this excuse of a city.

Checkout some other cities in the state and see construction happening BIG TIME from PRIVATE companies.

NOT HAPPENING HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DimBulb likes to take and give credit to any of his/her cronies all of the time. The PI road project was started with a very small group of citizens, and others in different fields during a trip to Tallahassee. Then Gov. Jeb Bush stepped to plate.

The VA Clinic which Dimmy likes to take credit for or his/her cronies, was started with another group of citizens, working with a Commissioner and after many many years, this issue came to fruition here in Cape Coral. His/her cronies had nothing to do with it at all. We who have stood together with everyone, citizens, employees, retirees, etc. and worked hard to bring this City forward will continue to do so no matter who gets in the way. Because....we love our City.

A.M. Best the bond rating agency the city has to provide Correct number to show it is not 1/3 as tou state onlythe1/2truth.

They reported a high at the end of 2006 of 1697 employees and a low recently of 1247.

Does that look like a third reduction to anyone else except you.

P.S. you have a ground swell of people in this city who disagree with you now and when the Utility Tax, Fire Assessment Tax, and the increased tax on property value hit their pocketbooks you will the vibration at your home, city hall, and now the BOCC Offices.
