let tap out the millage rate!
Next year is the year the state steps in sends in a receiver to show them the proper levels for wages, benefits, services, etc. Time to close down the shell game once and for all.

Grumpy 19 the armored vehicle is only another piece of straw thrown into the mix. I know it will have more costs associated with it as does anything purchased by anybody.
Also do you think there are a couple of extra ones hanging around that are in need of homes? It is either recoup some of these federal tax dollars that built them or store them in a southwest desert. Might there be an instance for there local use? More chance of a cat 5 hurricane! As I stated it is not the vehicle itself but just the addition of another straw! I have more of a complaint still over the $82,000 the police put on us. With misinformation of its personnel in its computer payroll files. Which cost us two appeals by them to keep the $82K and the time. Not counting the trust that they broke! I wonder if they ever paid that back?
Looks like the city's computer terminals are getting a good work out!
Your being watched!
Bobbie I live here because at this point I have to unless I would be a stupid as you and others that think like you.
Get it through your head the homes here will never get to where they should be in value until the city gets it right. Gets it right means good value, service and quality of life. Not just throw money at it's employees and the special businesses that feed off the city. I have been here over 30 yrs and have heard Tate's growing pains story for too long. So I will be on the city until it changes and becomes like the ones that do not have the problems this one does! Get used to me I am not going anywhere at this moment. Don't look now but there are many many many more residents who feel the same way!!!!!!!!!!
jr4623 you can't buy used until you turn Fleet Maintenance on its head.
When 3/4 of a year ago or more when we found out the asst. managers did not know how to schedule the work, check to see if it was complete, they should have been asked to leave.
That was when the fire chief who retired said he would keep track of the trucks on a clipboard which he never referred to again. Can't imagine why he retired from such a poor paying gig?
Management was so poor and the documentation so non existent on the vehicles the city had to turn it over to the Financial Director. Speaks volumes of what was going on there on a daily basis!
Hey Bobbie when they said "build it and they"ll come. They were not referring to the way this city does iys business.
As far as the millage rate this city has a ceiling of 10.0 pal and it is 9.475.
Like a credit card if they max it out and I hope they do. Because that is how to control these jerks.
The fact that they want separate nontaxable amounts kept off the millage gives them the ability to continue their spending unbridled as it is.
As far as the fire district tax you are right it is not there yet just like the utility that is not there yet. But if they could pass it they would or will.
So Bobbie hopefully you didn't buy too many of those $80K homes cause you are not going to sell them very quickly.
But they will in the other areas!
lightswitch: I have to agree with much of what you say. there is a cost to LCEC for the programming to add this asinine tax onto our bills. Who is going to pay that cost? The LCEC customer will. This whole idea has not been thoroughly vetted by anyone. Since the election, all I have seen is a spend, spend attitude from Council. This all has to stop. I don't understand why6 we have to purchase a swat vehicle, when there are surplus federal govt. vehicles just asking to be requested for that would fit the bill. Middletown Township in NJ had a police officer fill out the paperwork for these vehicles which are surplus. They got a good number of them. Most of them were armored Hummers that can be utilized as swat vehicles. This city has a history of not filling out paperwork for grants and things because someone decided it wasn't worth the effort. That attitude needs to come to an end also. Apply for whatever we can get back from the taxes the residents pay to the feds..
bobbie: I didn't say I didn't know about the fire assessment tax. It has not been mentioned since the initial presentation, when these taxes first came up. Burton has not mentioned it in any of their presentations. You call ia fee when it is actually a tax that will be on your tax bill. If it were a fee, you would be able to opt out of paying it if you so chose. You would be taking your chances by opting out, as you would not get fire protection from the fire dept..
Any and all costs that the Lee County Electric cooperative experiences will increase the amount of the utility tax. Rise in cost of fuel and all other expenses will be built into what they buy in electricity from who ever they buy itr from. Increased account handling and accounting will also increase the cost to the end user's in Cape Coral. Even I do not think that the morons trying to put this tax through do not know this.
almost forgot electric rates if cap and trade goes through are going to soar

at least put sun splash up for sale turn we may lose some money on the deal but it will be a taxable entity than a 500000 drain, sell the 14 million of land what does the city need all that land for? were not supposed to be in the R.E. speculation business. buying used police cars does not make sense rebuild the ones we have. Has the fire apparatus service failures been corrected? and why wasn't the persons responsible been fired etc
Oh, I forgot to mention that since JJSully still can't figure out how the PST gets charged on the LCEC bill, he must have been among those who left the meeting early, before the finance director explained it in detail.

So much BS to have to read. So much misinformation. So much selfishness. Lightswitch, I never expect any truth from you, but today I think you hit the bottle harder than usual. Your phony "realtor" didn't even get the millage rate right. And we don't currently have fire "districts". Your entire rant about the businesses is just a slam at your own City and does nothing but falsely discourage people from coming here, from opening businesses here, from being happy here. Terry, is $150. to help your City, really "selling you down the river"? Gee, I'd hate to ever need a favor from you. You're just cheap! I do not understand the mentality that attempts to destroy rather than create. Why Do you live here? Why are you hateful? You too Sully! Just go away and let the rest of us correct the RAG days of ruination.

Oh don't forget the customer charge.
So let me get this straight. 10% added to my electric bill. Is that 10% of the final bill? In addition to the cost for electricity I have a 1. Power Adj Cost @. Franchise fee and gross receipts tax. Do they plan on taxing me on a tax? It would be the Slick Six's way of doing business. How about an answer McGrail.
To the City Manager, anyone can operate with unlimited money, it takes a true manager to manage i a down market. You seem to be afraid to make a decision. The first job that needs to be cut is yours. Go back to Troy AH.

Here is something for everyone to think about. I have been following this whole thing from start, to where we are now. Everything that has been presented to the public via council meetings, only mentions the public service tax on electric bills. They keep trying to snow everyone with this figure of $150 a year. What about this fire service fee? They seem to never add that into the mix. Put the taxes on the November ballot and let the public decide. Tell the city to stop pick pocketed the residents that live here all year round. The way things are going, you might as well have all your money direct deposited into the city coffers and let them give you an allowance.

1sandy: and when will you return? Sounds like you are one of those snowbirds that won't be paying the full freight on this.
4 years of neglect under the current Mayor and the road ahead gang has brouyght us to this junction. Pay or blight? I am willing to pay a little more for the quality of life that my family and I will enjoy upon my return to the Cape. Don't let a few hundred cheap cry babies destroy the Cape for the many thousand. This all falls at the feet of the current highest elected official. It was his watch that 4 years of neglect took place and John Sullivan must be held accountable at the polling place.

Good work standing up to this new program of theft, folks.
When funds tighten for citizens, we make personal adjustments to get by. When funds tighten for the City of Cape Coral, they make tiny adjustments, pretend to make larger adjustments, then get a larger hammer to persuade the citizens.
Don't fall for the business owner versus residence owner. Divide and conquer has been a tactic of evil since the beginning of time. Look, all of us with at least a dime's worth of obedience to God's law want liberty. We are on the same side.
I have asked to join the new Cape movement, there is a "Voter Recall Movement" underfoot. I think I will join since Council is not wanting to put tax where they should be.. on tax bill! TRANSPARENCY NEEDED! REPRESENTATION FOR ALL! or R E C A L L!
B t w. It is called the road ahead
obviously not seeing how his left and right nut got voted out. And the election at the time when he got voted in was barely over 4% of the cities population no where near the vast majority. And two. He has a job as the mayor to link out for the best intrest if the city herself. Not the staff or the residents. The city herself. And in his case of sleeping at meeting in the count when he is representing cape coral oversleeping to then showing up to them like he just got outta bed. We need someone who cares. And not part of Any special intrest group.
Business owners protest? Why, what more do you want?
Residents buy your goods and services. You make a profit from those purchases.
Residents subsidize your solid waste removal for your business through manipulated city rate structures.
Residents subsidize your sewer charges again through city manipulated rates.
Yet you complain because you pay at tour residence and your business?
Go complain to your suppliers not the residents for inability to make enough profit to pay for your trash pickup or your sewer bill.
Business is a risk reward and now we see investing in a residential home is the same? NO!
Where are the 100 businesses in the CRA district? When do they pay the freight?
157,000 to 162,000 residents the businesses can't make a profit and the city can't run like the rest of the cities in even this county?
