Was council’s decision to terminate City Manager Gary King’s contract early the right one?

  1. Yes, council has the right to appoint a new manager if a majority agree.
  2. Yes, Gary King needed to go.
  3. No, Gary King was a good city manager.
  4. No, the cost of paying off his contract is too much.
  5. Council should have instead given Mr. King notice it intended to let his contract run out.
  6. Council should have given Mr. King a chance to work with the new board before making a decision.
  7. Suspension while council considered its options would have been a better route.
  8. Other.

His original appointment was political. Letting him go is political. Why the surprise?

King was put into that seat via political favor not because of his qualifications. Its a simple as that. Not only was he up to his neck in political spins he did nothing but cause hate and disscontent throughout all that was under him. Silly was gonna do same thing w Stewart but never got chance he said that himself. That's my thoughts on this situation and some agree some don't but in America we are intitled to our own opinions that what makes here great .IF BOTH SIDES FOCUSED ON MAKIN POSITIVE THINGS HAPPEN FOR THIS CITY INSTEAD OF GOIN AFTER EACH OTHER AND HIRING QUALIFIED PEOPLE NOT FRIENDS WE WOULD BE IN MUCH BETTER SHAPE THAN WHERE WE SIT TODAY .AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED WE NEED TO BECOME A WHOLE AND STOP THE ATTACKS BY CITIZENS AND MEMBERS OF THE DIAS

I am betting a good ole boy from north of the Cape will be offered the city managers job. Howard do you think that could be correct? All that aside what we all saw from the new (and improved?)council was rights of citizens taken away, transparency not to be a consideration, and we will tell them how it is going to happen and when. All from a retired cop, a retired fireman, a former member of the Finance Advisory Board (who questions nothing because "it is not our job." and the son of a former city retiree, and I would not want to leave out the construction maven. I suggest as time goes on and more of the old screw ups begin Governor Scott and the Department of Citizen Services is made aware. I am also interested in the vote of the council member who saved her Family $7,000. I suppose that vote would not be considered personal betterment.

In reality the council listening was not going to change the decision that had been made before the election when the candidates had not even been seated. However the council has been reclaimed with what was in place before deille, Brandt, then Sullivan, Chulatkes-Leetz, and Khuen were voted into office. At the meeting I sat in front of two members and their wives and inback of two member and their wives. As I listened to the conversations amazingly the two rows had they same conversation at different times. How now that Deille, Brandt, and King are gone "We are in", from the front row. From the back row "nobody is going to tell us what do any more." So here we are. No accounting, no responsibility to perform, no plan to really reduce debt service, no care if funds are managed actively to maximize revenue. No one to really care one way or the other if the Europeans come to visit or buy. Speaking of the Europeans how interested will their Bankers be to investments b

Citizen Input is am important part of Demoracy. It may be slow, but it is important. Sad new Council ran on the platform of "Listening to the Citizens" and then when it was important issue, turn back on Citizens. I guess any other importnt issues in the city for the next 4 years will be met with McGrails statement "You voted for me to represent you and vote as "I" see fit" ie: We don't care what you have to say now. I feel "used" for my vote!

It is obivious that this council doesn't have a mandate to do anything. Gary King acted with class. This uneducated council is totally devoid of class. Hold on to your billfolds they are going to raise our taxes & fees even though they promised on the campaign trial that they wouldn't. They are a bunch of liars. They said they would lsten to the people but decided to block citizen input on getting rid of the city manager. They will raise our taxes & fees too.
