It is not what King thinks or what he does not think. Silly, it is an economic reality. Golf courses elsewhere assess the economy cut wages, benefits, positions, use more part time help and retirees. This is real not rhetoric. If the city had not been poorly managed for so long it would have paid down debt and not let the employees taken advantage of the city. Cape Coral city with a job program for those that can't get a job anywhere else. Do not look back at the past like the yacht club, water park, etc. King and his MANAGEMENT TEAM has moved this city forward and not blindly. A city can not move forward when its foundation has been built on a sand foundation. The days of Gulf America aka Avatar are gone thank God.
Just as a city shouldn't be in the water business it has no business to run a golf course. That is one of the major problem around here, the city should be in the government business, not in the private business sector. As with everything else. When government start meddling in what should be the private sector then it usually screws the whole thing up. This should be a private enterprise not one that is supported by tax dollars. It also is a major conflict of interest situation.
Operating a golf couse is not a proper function for city government to provide. The golf course, the youth center and the city owned water park should all be outsourced and supported by 100% user fees not tax dollars. The employees would be hired by those contracting to operate these facilities. It is time for the city to provide only those services that the city needs to provide and not those services that just a minority of the residents want others to pay for.
We think that it's disgustingly unfair that King blames the lack of rounds and decreased funds on the Coral Oaks Management! We are in a depression and golf is a luxury sport. a very expensive luxury sport. How many golfers can afford to play as they once did? Just another example of King's disjointed thinking in our opinion.

A private company could run it for a lot cheaper than the city....think Post Office versus UPS or Fedex.
