Ask Marilyn: Taping Your Windows Before a Storm

Paul Hoffman of Jersey City, New Jersey, writes:

Marilyn: I survived Hurricane Sandy because I live in a high-rise apartment building. To save my windows from possible breakage, I taped them with a product recommended by the salesman. The windows didn't break, but now I can't get the tape off. It tears when I try to remove it, and I'll need to scrape it off. What kind of tape should be used on windows to prevent them from being broken by winds but is easy to remove afterward?

Marilyn responds:

Agh. Too bad I didn't write about this beforehand. You shouldn't tape your windows at all. Tape won't prevent breakage.
