3,000 FSW graduates to be honored in three virtual commencements

Florida SouthWestern State College will honor 3,000 graduates in the Class of 2020 during virtual commencement ceremonies at 5 p.m., Friday, June 5.

In a first-of-its-kind event for FSW, the college will host three virtual commencement ceremonies on YouTube. The School of Education, the School of Business and Technology and the School of Health Professions' graduates will be honored in one ceremony while the School of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences and the School of Pure and Applied Sciences' graduates will share two ceremonies split alphabetically by graduates' last names. The ceremonies will launch on YouTube simultaneously.

Recorded speeches by three student speakers, nominated by FSW faculty, will be included in all three ceremonies. Graduates will have the opportunity to record their own video and submit a photo, which will be shown during the ceremony. A special Snapchat FSW cap and gown filter will also be available to virtually create their own special graduation picture.

Hodges University offering virtual summer camp for kids ages 10-14

Hodges University is offering virtual summer camps for boys and girls ages 10-14. The camps will focus on teaching kids how to create their own games and how to create their own apps. Each camp session will be taught by a Hodges University professor.

The camps are from 9 a.m. to noon. The cost is $175. All kids will need is a computer or laptop, Zoom and Google Chrome. The software needed to build the games and apps is free. Class sizes are limited.

The camp schedule is:

* June 15-19 or July 13-17: Create Your Own Apps!

FSW collegiate high schools to hold virtual commencements

Florida SouthWestern State College's collegiate high schools in Lee and Charlotte (FSWC-Lee and FSWC-Charlotte) counties will hold virtual commencement ceremonies to honor their Class of 2020 graduates.

FSWC-Lee will hold its virtual commencement ceremony at 5:15 p.m., this Saturday, May 9. Prior to the virtual ceremony, graduating students will receive a customized Senior Time Capsule Graduation Gift Box which will include their cap, gown and diploma so family members can present the students with their diplomas as their names are read.

FSWC-Charlotte will hold its virtual ceremony at 6 p.m., Friday, May 15. The ceremony will feature graduation keynote speakers, senior videos and pictures. Each senior will be individually featured as their diploma is presented virtually.

Both ceremonies will be livestreamed on FSW's website at www.fsw.edu/ livestream and video links will be available to view each ceremony following the livestream.
