IslandFest Mullet Toss & Seafood Festival Saturday

The Greater Pine Island Chamber of Commerce's IslandFest Mullet Toss & Seafood Festival will be held at Phillips Park this Saturday, March 14

This event will combine island traditions with several new activities. The Kiwanis Club will conduct its charity Fish Drop; tickets can be purchased at Century 21 in St. James City, Winn-Dixie and at the event. The Chamber will carry on the long standing tradition of tossing mullet. Olde Fish House Marina, Blue Dog Bar & Grill and Sun Shrimp Gourmet Inc. will be on-site serving up the best local seafood in Southwest Florida.

The Matlacha Hookers Kid Corner will be filled with lots of activities. Local photographer Nicole Cicchiro will be there with her photography and gifts. John Betts Art will display yard art and spin art. Homemade soaps by Barrier Island Company, popcorn by CW Fudge Factory, fishing shirts from Monroe Canal Marina and local music by Coastal Connection Band will also be featured.

New this year, local fishing, cast net and kayak experts will be providing informative seminars on the secrets and skills for enjoying the waters surrounding Pine Island. Come on out for Kayak Fishing with Mike Lahn of Gulf Coast Kayak, Josh Olive with Waterline Magazine will be speaking on offshore fishing, Mike Myers of ReelShark Charters on Tarpon Fishing, Snook Cowboy with the Florida Coaster Magazine on Lunar Metabolics.

Back by popular demand will be the "Fish Dip" Contest. The contest is free to all professional participants. The public will determine the winner. Every person will receive a sample of the fish dip in a color coordinated cup on a plate with pretzels napkins and voting ticket. Once people have tasted the participants' fish dip, they will put their ticket in the appropriate color coordinated boxes.
