Unnecessary training facility

August 16, 2019
Cape Coral Daily Breeze

To the editor:

Before the specter of an over $8.5 million appropriation for a gun training range for Cape Coral Police personnel raises its ugly head again, I would like to make a commentary of what I have researched. Our local indoor gun ranges both here in the Cape and Fort Myers are not only amenable to having our local police officers train at their facilities but heartily welcome it.

I was informed that their sites are currently utilized by various law enforcement and police agencies for nominal fees, and such venues can support a multitude of weapons used by these agencies.

I don't know who in the Cape Coral City Council keeps introducing this measure but whomever this person is does not have the interests of Cape Coral residents at heart. This would be another unnecessary tax burden heaped upon an already overtaxed citizenry when cheaper and less expensive alternatives exist. This would be another waste of taxpayer dollars.
