Kevin Pearce, a champion snowboarder and traumatic brain injury survivor, has been selected as the keynote speaker for the 25th Annual Southwest Florida Blue Chip Community Business Award luncheon ceremony.

Coordinated and sponsored by McGriff Insurance Services, the event will take place Wednesday, Nov. 6, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort and Spa, 5001 Coconut Road in Bonita Springs, and will recognize small business owners in Lee, Collier and Charlotte counties who have overcome adversity to achieve success.

In the blink of an eye, Pearce went from being an Olympic gold medal hopeful to suffering a traumatic brain injury that nearly took his life. As a champion snowboarder who was once considered the key to rival Shaun White, Pearce earned back-to-back victories at The Oakley Arctic Challenge and two Air and Style Victories in 2007 and 2008. He went on to become a silver medalist at the 2009 Winter X Games and by 2010, was considered a gold medal contender in the Winter Olympics. However, tragedy struck. In a devastating training accident, Pearce suffered the traumatic brain injury that would change his life forever.

After six days in a coma, Pearce awoke to a grueling road to recovery as he began intensive therapy and rehabilitation that included relearning how to walk, talk and even swallow. By drawing upon his own optimism, the discipline that he acquired as a world-class athlete, the love of his family and the support of numerous healthcare professionals, Pearce was able to make amazing progress that continues to this day. His journey has led to forging a new path toward helping and inspiring others and as the co-founder of the Love Your Brain Foundation, he has found a sense of purpose advocating for the prevention of brain injuries and helping those impacted by it.

Today, Pearce is a sought-after speaker, inspiring others through his powerful message of perseverance, purpose, overcoming adversity and finding strength through helping others.
