Illuminating look at city streetlights

April 26, 2019
Cape Coral Daily Breeze

To the editor:

Twenty-eight streetlights! Recently, there has been a great deal of discussion about streetlights. Most can agree that there are too few in the north Cape, although the city traffic engineer did say that all of the "semi-permanent bus stops" have streetlights... let that sink in.

Travel across town the the infamous "Four Corners" intersection at the crossing of Beach Parkway and Aqualinda Boulevard. A contractor, presumably working on behalf of the city, recently installed streetlights to bring the number of fixtures within 100 yards, in all directions, of this intersection, to a total of 28... Read that again...28! There are eight directly over the actual intersection.

I have not seen this many lights in one place since I watched "Close Encounters of the Third Kind." This intersection is visible from the Space Station. At first, I thought it was a "Streetlight Farm!"
