Tritons' baseball team remains undefeated

Mariner downs Port Charlotte, 3-1

The Mariner Tritons remained unbeaten (6-0, 4-0 District 6A-11) as Jimmy Meredith held Port Charlotte (5-4, 2-2) to one unearned run in seven innings. Meredith allowed five hits, struck out four and didn't walk anyone. Louis Alberro was 2-for-2 and drove in two of Mariner's three runs. Jaylen Youngs stole two bases and scored twice, and Mark Bautista had an RBI. The Tritons play Bradenton Manatee on Monday in the Sarasota Baseball Classic.

Cypress Lake 10, North Fort Myers 0 (5 innings): Owen Caple and Jayse Meek had hits for North (2-5, 0-4 District 6A-11) in a loss to Cypress Lake (5-3, 2-2). The Red Knights play at Bishop Verot on Friday.

Ida Baker 12, Cape Coral 4: The Bulldogs (5-4, 1-1 District 6A-11) scored nine runs in the first three innings to earn a series split with Cape Coral (3-4, 1-3). The Seahawks' next game is March 20 at Naples, while Ida Baker travels to Fort Myers on March 18.

Bishop Verot 23, Oasis 0 (4 innings): The Vikings (5-1, 4-0 District 4A-5) completed a two-game sweep of the Sharks (3-2, 0-2). Matt Powell had a huge game at the plate for Verot, going 3-for-4 with a homer, three runs scored and four RBI. Austin Orme stole four bases, scored twice and knocked in a run. Andrew Viceli pitched three innings, allowing one hit and striking out five for the win. Oasis's next game is March 27 at East Lee County. Bishop Verot is home Friday to play North Fort Myers.

Softball

Mariner 7, Port Charlotte 0: Hailey Biddle and Hannah Holloway drove in three runs each for the Tritons (7-2, 5-1 District 6A-11). Delicia Bent was the winning pitcher, and was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Port Charlotte fell to 4-6, 2-3. Mariner has a tournament game with South Plantation (7-1) on Saturday in Palmetto Bay.

Science Hill, TN 22, Island Coast 1 (3 innings): Natalie Siebert tripled, doubled, and scored a run for Island Coast (0-10). The Gators are off until March 26, when they play at North Fort Myers.

North Fort Myers 16, Cypress Lake 0: The Red Knights (6-2, 4-0 District 6A-11) didn't allow a hit, while racking up 16 hits of their own and taking advantage of four Panthers (4-6-1, 2-2) errors.
