Time to grow up and think long-term

To the editor:

Have you ever considered that making "investments" in the usual fashion may be both unpatriotic and widely counterproductive???

Such is unpatriotic in that in order to show the best short-term results, corporate governances frequently indulge in operational practices which are both unfair and damaging to employees, customers, investors, themselves and, indeed, to the entire nation in the long-term, as opposed to right now!

Only the wisest and well-grounded of corporate governances and investors seem to be able to grasp this quite elementary concept and then to put into practice appropriate safeguards against such indulgences: Boom and Bust is the inevitable result.

Another aspect of investing which is socially destructive: No one should be able to collect money without exerting a reasonable degree of effort connected to earning it.

Toward that end, persons who receive money from investments without any responsibility toward those investments should be required to pay a heavy surtax, essentially rendering such a practice counterproductive. The only exceptions should be for those unable to properly carry the burden, physically and/or mentally, especially too young, too old or disabled.

We need, as a nation and a people, to stop behaving like immature children.
