Big fourth quarter helps Triton boys run past Bulldogs, 71-57

Mariner's boys basketball team pulled away with a 27-point fourth quarter to down the Ida Baker Bulldogs, 71-57.

Alex Freeland led the way for Mariner, now 4-10 on the season, with 23 points, including six three-pointers. Derrick Purdy scored 15 and Rashawn Hunter 13 for the Tritons.

Mariner is home next Thursday to play Immokalee, while Ida Baker (4-10) hosts Port Charlotte on Friday.

Girls basketball

Bishop Verot 60, Immokalee 39: Verot's unbeaten season continued with the Vikings's 16th victory. With 22 points in the win, Charlotte Terry moved into third place all-time in scoring (1,428 points) for the Vikings. Claire Woolam scored 16 points and had nine assists, and Chelsea Meehan scored 11. The Vikings are at LaBelle on Friday.

Island Coast 38, South Fort Myers 33: Island Coast is 7-9 after a road win at South Fort Myers (6-4). Next up for the Gators is a home game with Cape Coral on Friday.

Moore Haven 57, Oasis 56: Maddie Chaney had 17 points for the Sharks (3-8). Rylee Casey had 15 points, six rebounds and four blocks, while Aliyah Wilson had nine points and 13 rebounds. Oasis is home against North Fort Myers on Friday.

Boys soccer

Mariner 5, Canterbury 1: Mariner's five goals came from five different players: Santiago Guerrero, Alex Aguirre, John Aguirre, Nikola Salopek and Sebastian Lopez. The Tritons (16-1-4) were able to dominate the Cougars (8-2-1) despite being down a player for 70 minutes. The Tritons will be at Port Charlotte on Friday.

Cape Coral 2, LaBelle 1: Juan Parra and Joao Soares scored for the Seahawks (12-5-1), both on assists by Jacob Jiminez. Cape Coral is home Friday against Dunbar, the last District 3A-13 match of the regular season.

Lehigh 4, North Fort Myers 2: The Red Knights are now 4-7-2. North's next match is at home Friday against Cypress Lake.

Girls soccer

Canterbury 4, Mariner 1: Canterbury moved to 8-2, while the Tritons slipped to 8-5-3. Mariner is home against Port Charlotte on Friday.

North Fort Myers 8, Lehigh 0: North Fort Myers won its second match in as many days. The Red Knights (11-2) are at Cypress Lake on Friday.

Tuesday

Boys basketball

Cape Coral 66, Ida Baker 59: The Seahawks controlled the fourth quarter to earn the win. Travon Smaller led Cape Coral (3-10, 3-4 District 7A-10) with 17 points, Jamie O'Conner scored 14 and Kaydn Waters had nine, including two key 3-pointers in the final period. Blake Donnaelly of Ida Baker (4-8, 3-5) led all scorers with 19 points and David Aguirre scored 17. Ida Baker is home Wednesday against Mariner, while Cape Coral is at North Fort Myers on Thursday.

Lemon Bay 60, Island Coast 21: The Gators (1-12. 0-4 District 7A-10) fell to the Manta Rays (9-5, 5-2). Island Coast is home Friday against Cape Coral.

Port Charlotte 50, North Fort Myers 44: Falling to the first-place Pirates, the Red Knights slipped to 5-10, 1-5 in District 7A-10. North is home Thursday against Cape Coral.

Community School of Naples 84, Oasis 51: District 5A-10 leader Community School (14-3, 8-0 widened their lead over Oasis. The Sharks (11-5, 5-2) play Canterbury on Thursday.

Charlotte 64, Bishop Verot 47: The Vikings trailed 32-17 at half and could not make up the difference. Bishop Verot (8-5) plays Thursday at North Port.

Girls basketball

Lemon Bay 35, Island Coast 25: The Gators fell to 6-9, 2-6 in District 7A-10. Island Coast plays at South Fort Myers on Wednesday.

Oasis 34, Community School of Naples 27: Rylee Casey had 16 points, nine rebounds, five steals and a block in the Sharks' victory. Allyah Wilson had 17 rebounds and three blocks. and Maddie Chaney had 10 points, six boards and five steals.

Port Charlotte 50, North Fort Myers 34: The Red Knights fell to 6-11, 0-5 in District 7A-10. North has a non-district game Friday at Oasis.

Bishop Verot 48, Cypress Lake 6: Claire Woolham's 14 points increased her total as the second highest scorer in Vikings history (1,472 points).

Boys soccer

North Fort Myers 3, Ida Baker 1: North (4-7-1) got past Ida Baker (2-8-4). The Red Knights are home Wednesday against Lehigh, while the Bulldogs' next match is Thursday at Estero.

Mariner 1, Bradenton Manatee 1, tie: Nikola Salopek scored Mariner's goal on an assist by Leo Perez.

South Fort Myers 1, Bishop Verot 0: The Vikings fell to 2-7-3 with the loss.

Late Monday

Girls soccer

Mariner 3, Bradenton Manatee 0: The Tritons (8-4-3) opened January with a shutout win in Bradenton. Mariner faces Canterbury on Wednesday.

North Fort Myers 5, Ida Baker 1: Emilee Hauser scored twice and had two assists, Michelle Horan had a goal and four assists, and Taylor Metzger and Makenzy Dupree also had North goals. The Red Knights improved to 10-2, 6-0 in District 3A-13.

Cape Coral 8, East Lee County 0: The Seahawks climbed to 6-7-1 on the season with the win. Cape Coral is home Friday against Dunbar.
