A better choice

October 4, 2018

To the editor:

U.S. Representative Francis Rooney, dba Rooney Holdings, is running for re-election which means business must be very good. Francis is a multi-multi millionaire and a heavy financial donor to Republican politicians seeking office at the federal, state and local level.

His construction companies built both presidential libraries for the Bush presidents and he was appointed by George W. as the US Ambassador to the Vatican.

For the past 20 years, Rooney Holdings and subsidiaries has received over $2 billion in government contracts. according to a local newspaper article in 2016. I guess the old saying, "It takes money to make money" holds true to Rooney's political donations.

Rooney has refused to debate David Holden as well as not answering questions at his own political rallies. We know he voted against protecting Medicare and Social Security and wants to use the money to give the very rich another whopping tax break. Rooney was happy to add $1.5 trillion dollars to our deficit so he could pay less taxes and other corporate benefits. He is also a big advocate for deregulation which benefits big business and corporations at the detriment of workers and consumers. Francis doesn't want to take guns away from dangerous people. The NRA is Rooney's friend. Francis has done nothing to protect our environment. Enough about Rooney, his interest with politics is to advance his business and more government contracts.

The better choice to represent the 19th District is David Holden. He will do what is right for all of us, not just special interests. David's campaign website clearly states what he believes in and what he is against. He welcomes debates and will answer any and all questions. David Holden is concerned about you and me and will look after our best interest. Being a U.S. Representative is not a business opportunity for David Holden.
