Tainted waters are a safety issue

August 31, 2018
Cape Coral Daily Breeze

To the editor:

Two related articles were published on Aug. 15 regarding blue-green algae.

The first question is, whether it is OK to drain Lake O.

Yes, drain Lake O, get rid of the polluted reservoir for blue-green algae. Lowering the lake level only skimmed the surface of the highest concentration of pollution.

The second article concerned an algae removal test project.

The photo shows workers (?) skimming the water surface of algae. What about all that algae below the surface?

Perhaps this job should be investigated for work safety issues.

Of course, these are poor workers needing a new job. Never mind if they are exposed to disabling toxins.

There used to be a time when we cared about the safety of our people and especially our workers. We talked about unsafe working conditions in Third World countries. Now we are the third world country.
