Safety can’t wait

July 20, 2018
Cape Coral Daily Breeze

To the editor:

As a father with two kids attending a Lee County School and a candidate for the Lee County School Board, I am very upset to learn from several school district personnel this week that they still have serious school safety concerns.

Since the end of last school year, little has changed. There are 28 days until the first day of school. Many schools still lack implementation of safety measures, such as the single point entry touted so many times by the board and superintendent. Why, in the 109 days since the March 25th letter Dr. Adkins sent to all parents, have not all schools been reduced to a single entry point?

I have watched as our school board tried to use safety to push the sales tax referendum. Obviously, the safety of our kids and district personnel does not appear to be a priority, unless they can have their half penny.

Safety can't wait until November!

My message to the board and superintendent:

Our kids' safety is NOT your bargaining chip.

Do your job!
