Missing toddler found in canal pronounced dead

A missing toddler found in a North Port canal has been pronounced dead.

"After all possible life-saving measures were taken, the child unfortunately passed away at around 1:20 p.m. today," the North Port Police Department reported via Facebook. "There is still an extremely active investigation, so there are no further details at this time. As always, we will update when we receive more information."

UPDATE TWO: Missing toddler found in canal; transported to ER

Ava was located in a canal about a half mile away from the residence. Life saving measures were immediately performed until paramedics arrived to transport to the North Port ER for further treatment. This still is an ongoing investigation. More details when available.

UPDATE ONE: Search for missing toddler continues

According to their Facebook page, the North Port Police Department is still currently searching. Multiple agencies are on scene.

"Please share to get more info out there," the latest post states. "We are currently not asking for volunteers to assist."

ORIGINAL POST: NPPD searching for missing toddler

The North Port Police Department is currently searching for a missing 20-month-old child. She is a white female, brown eyes and brown hair. Her name is Ava. She is missing from her home in the 8500 block of Alam Avenue, off South Biscayne. She was last seen wearing a diaper and is old enough to walk. Missing since around 10 a.m. More details when available."
