Santa to visit Shell Factory for Christmas in July

Unknown to many, Santa's job encompasses 365 days a year, with one of them being unbelievably hectic.

The rest of the year he travels around the world to visit children to get an early vibe on what they want for Christmas more than five months from now.

This weekend, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Santa will make his annual visit to the Shell Factory and Nature Park's Christmas House at 2787 Tamiami Trail, which all year round devotes itself to that most wonderful time of the year.

It is all part of the ninth-annual Christmas in July promotion, which is at least the most wonderful time of the summer. All month long the newly enlarged Christmas House will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and it promises to be something extra special.

"It's already doing well. We've seen an uptick in sales and people coming to the store and sticking around to listen to the music and eat at the restaurant," said Rick Tupper, marketing director and CFO at the Shell Factory.

There will be thousands of ornaments from which to choose with 20 percent off all collectibles unless otherwise marked. They include Elf on a Shelf, Department 56, Painted ponies, Willow Tree, Fontanini, Foundation Angels, Kurt Adler, Jim Shore and more.

There will also be a 12 days of Christmas giveaway for which you can enter to win in the Christmas House.

"This has grown so much and we have a lot of new products from Disney and a lot of collectibles. It has grown in terms of attendance and selection," Tupper said.

But the big draw is always St. Nick. Every year he comes to Southwest Florida to meet kids of all ages to hear what they're asking for.

Those wishes may change as the year goes on as the newest big thing is introduced, and Santa never guarantees that kids will get everything they want, but always promises something nice.

"He's the real Santa and he's a good guy. He does it for free for us and he's always available in July for us," Tupper said. "He's on vacation and listens to some music when he's done."
