Hometown spirit: Red, White & BOOM!

June 28, 2018
Cape Coral Daily Breeze

Cape Coral's annual Independence Day street party, Red, White & Boom!, promises again to be the biggest Fourth of July bash in Southwest Florida.

Featuring continuous live entertainment, numerous food and drink vendors, a kids area and the biggest, the best, fireworks display in Southwest Florida, it is small wonder this event attracts an estimated 40,000 people every year.

The festivities will begin at 5 p.m. and go until 10:30 on Cape Coral Parkway at the foot of the Cape Coral Bridge.

Live music will be performed throughout the evening, headlined by country musician Chase Bryant.

General admission is free with paid options -"Boom Passes" for priority seating, including food and drink, and wristband admission to "Patriot Park," with its abundance of activities for the kids - fun upgrades for those looking for a little more.

Looking to get a jump on the holiday?

Red, White and Brew, an annual pre-July 4th event hosted by South Cape Hospitality & Entertainment Associations, is set this year for Saturday, June 30, from 7-11 p.m.

The pub crawl will take participants to a dozen South Cape establishments for brew and appetizer samples, with a chance for prizes along the way. Tickets are 15 bucks in advance.

Want to step off the holiday with something a little more physical?

The Freedom 5K is the traditional Cape prelude to Red, White & BOOM!

The run begins at 7 a.m. on July 4 at the Chamber of Commerce building at 2051 Cape Coral Parkway East. Pre-registration, at $30 for adults, $25 for youths 17 and under and $20 for military, will save you a few bucks -day-of registration is $40.

There's also a Kids Fun Run following the 5K, courtesy of The Gunterberg Charitable Foundation. Fun Run registration is $10 with a post-race party following the event.

Community events such as these are made possible by the city, numerous businesses and hundreds of volunteers.

This year's Red, White & BOOM! has been organized by the city of Cape Coral Parks and Recreation Department.

The business community helps make the event possible.

The Freedom 5K is title-sponsored this year by Priority Business Solutions while The Gunterberg Charitable Foundation will host the Kids Fun Run.

Numerous other businesses contribute as well.

We thank all of these businesses for their generous donations, as well as our city's Parks & Rec and public safety departments for their efforts.

And let us not forget all the volunteers.

Thank you, thank you!

It is events like BOOM! that make the Cape a wonderful place to live - and visit.

Have a very happy and safe hometown Fourth!
