When Kari Ann Frazier of Cape Coral referred a friend to Direct Auto & Life Insurance's "Florida Referral Sweepstakes," she couldn't have imagined herself taking home the grand prize -and the insurance company couldn't have imagined it going to someone more deserving.

Frazier was the recipient of $2,500 in gift cards to Walmart, that will surely lend a helping hand in supporting her six children and five month-old grandson she cares for every day.

"I was excited, very excited. This will help us out a lot," she said of her name being drawn.

Kari Ann Frazier and family receives $2,500 in gift cards from Direct Auto & Life Insurance for winning the Florida Referral Sweepstakes.

The sweepstakes was state-wide and lasted nine weeks, with more than 1,000 participants entered randomly for $250 weekly prizes along with the $2,500 top giveaway.

"Customers who referred their friends and family to Direct Auto & Life Insurance were entered to win," said Tara Crary, Direct Auto & Life Insurance regional sales and marketing manager. "We're committed to serving our community and helping to share stories like Kari's that matter."

At the Del Prado Boulevard branch, Frazier and her family gathered with wide smiles and tasty treats, where they were presented a giant check -the preverbal cherry on top.

"Gas and food-and school clothes for the kids," is what she said the money will be used for.

The nearly life-long Southwest Florida native has a lot on her plate. Her 19 year-old son Camryn had a tragic accident at a Cape Coral Skate Park in 2016, in which he suffered a C4/C5 spinal cord injury which left him paralyzed from the upper chest down. He does have limited use of his arms and is very articulate.

He spent three months at the Shepherd Center Rehab for Spinal Cord Injuries in Atlanta where he started to rehabilitate his injuries and had to learn to breathe, swallow and talk again.

He's back home in Cape Coral now to get stronger, but Kari Ann hopes to return to Atlanta for further treatment.

"Pretty excited, it's good that she got it," Camryn said of his mother being the sweepstakes winner - all smiles in his wheelchair.

Kari Ann is a care-giver to her son, which means she stays home with him and her other children while her husband, Adam, works as a fire sprinkler inspector. The money will provide some financial assistance over the next few months.

"Oh, it's a big relief. And we've had so much (happening) lately that I'm at the doctors' numerous amount of times throughout the week. It will really help us out a lot," she added.

Steven Ward, district sales manager in Southwest Florida for Direct Auto & Life, couldn't be happier to see the Frazier family benefit from their drawing.

"I'm ecstatic that our branch had the final winner," he said. "This couldn't have come at a better time for her."

Camryn does have a "go fund me" page for anyone who would like to donate to his recovery. Visit .
