Memorial Day events in and around Cape Coral include:

* Coral Ridge

The 37th annual Memorial Day Remembrance held by Coral Ridge Funeral Home and Cemetery takes place Monday at 10 a.m. at 1630 SW Pine Island Road in Cape Coral.

This ceremony will take place in the Veterans Honor Garden and is free and open to the public.

Starting off will be a motorcade into the cemetery, slowly pulling up to the site where two fire trucks will hang a large American Flag between the cross aerial ladders. There also will be a fly-over by a UH-1 "Huey" helicopter from the Lee County Mosquito Control District.

* Memorial Gardens

Fort Myers Memorial Gardens will hold its annual Memorial Day Event this Monday, at 9 a.m. at 1589 Colonial Boulevard in Fort Myers.

The ceremony kicks off with a fly-over from a UH-1 "Huey" helicopter from the Lee County Mosquito Control District, music will be performed by Spirit of the Gulf, an award-winning a cappella chorus, including the national anthem and Armed Forces Medley. and the Lee County Sheriff's Office will perform Honor Guard duties.

A barbecue buffet lunch will be served in the Colonial Family Center once the event has concluded.

This event is free and open to the public.

* 5K Sandoval run

Come out to support the Cape Coral Charter Schools and the Sandoval Community with the 5th Annual Memorial Day 5k Run Walk to be held Memorial Day with a 7 a.m. start beginning at 2573 Sandoval Parkway.

Lots of kids age groups beginning at 5 and under, awards, prizes.

Pre-registration is $15 for youths under 18; $25 for adults and $50 per family (same house.) Add $5 for run-day registration All proceeds go to the Oasis Athletics Booster Club.

Packet pick-up are available at The Run Shoppe,1407 Cape Coral Pkwy E, on Saturday, May 26 and from 10:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and on Sunday, May 27, from 12:30-4:30 p.m. Race day packet pickups will be at the Sandoval Community Center at 6 a.m. on May 28. Registration may be made at to register
