Goodwill to close South Fort Myers retail and donation center

Goodwill Industries of Southwest Florida Inc. has announced that it will be closing its retail and donation center located in South Fort Myers, 11601 S. Cleveland Ave., effective at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 26. Goodwill's lease is expiring and will not be renewed.

Goodwill Industries of Southwest Florida successfully operates 28 other non-profit retail and donation centers throughout the five-county-area to generate revenue for much needed programs and services for people with disabilities and disadvantages.

Associates affected by the closing will receive assistance with job placement and will be encouraged to apply for open positions among the other Goodwill locations. Customers are encouraged to shop at Goodwill's many other convenient locations, including: 13500 Plantation Road, off Daniels Parkway; 16523 Island Park Road and the McGregor Book Store, 15165 McGregor Blvd.

In preparation for the store closing, the store will have two special sale days Friday, May 25, and Saturday, May 26. All donated goods will be 50 percent off.

Hurricane preparedness topic of next WIB meeting

The Greater Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce Women in Business Committee will host its June networking meeting from 4-6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6, at Wayne Wiles Floor Coverings, 16240 South Tamiami Trail in Fort Myers.

This month's WIB event will focus on hurricane preparedness while providing open networking for local professionals. During the program, three local business professionals will share their real-life experiences and lessons learned from Hurricane Irma. This panel will provide insight on what you should or shouldn't do, in both business sand home life, when preparing for the worst-case scenario.

The event will be catered by Franco's and there will be a 50/50 raffle, as well as a raffle for a hurricane preparedness kit donated by our host and sponsor, Wayne Wiles Floor Coverings.

The panel members include Karen Ryan, PR manager for LCEC, Keith Ruebeling, president/owner of Larue Pest Management, and Will Prather, executive producer/owner of Prather Productions, also named "Best Chill" in a hurricane in Florida Weekly's Best Of issue.

Schoenfeld appointed co-chair of Lee County Bar Association group

Attorney Jennifer J. Hammond of Green Schoenfeld & Kyle LLP has been appointed co-chair of the Lee County Bar Association's Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Practice Section.

Hammond has nearly 20 years of business and legal experience. Her focus areas include estate planning, trust administration, taxation, probate, corporate, business and partnership law, and wealth preservation.

Hammond is a member of the Florida and Lee Bar Associations, as well as the American and Maryland Bar Associations.

Pushing the Envelope's Scott to address FPRA

The Florida Public Relations Association Southwest Florida Chapter has announced that Samantha Scott, APR, president of the marketing communications firm, Pushing the Envelope, will be the keynote speaker for its May 22 luncheon program. Scott will present "Social Media For Business Growth" from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m at the Holiday Inn Fort Myers Airport at Town Center, located at 9931 Interstate Commerce Drive in Fort Myers. Scott will educate attendees on how to create motivating content, strategically choose the most effective channels to optimize peak performance, as well as, how to attribute leads, sales and revenue accurately.
