Tropical Breeze Fun Park celebrates anniversary

Tropical Breeze Fun Park recently celebrated its first anniversary. The "family entertainment center" officially opened for business on April 28, 2017, at 234 Santa Barbara Blvd., in Cape Coral.

The park, which is open Sunday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., features an 18-hole miniature golf course and an outdoor extreme laser tag facility. According to park owners, the laser tag is mission based so participants can compete in a variety of combat scenarios.

The park is also ideal for birthday parties and company outings.

Winners crowned at 23rd Annual Taste of the Beach

The Fort Myers Beach Chamber of Commerce hosted its 23rd Annual Taste of the Beach on May 6. The food festival held included approximately 16 restaurants plus promotional vendors and live music provided by Jo List and Friends.

Local restaurants served up samples of their best signature dishes available for purchase. They also competed for the top Taste of the Beach Award honors in several categories, including: Best Appetizer, Best Dessert, Best Meat Entree, Best Chicken Entree, Best Seafood Entree, People's Choice, and Best Decorated Booth.

The winners included:

Best Appetizer: Castaway's Bar and Grill

Best Dessert: Fish-Tale Restaurant

Best Meat Entree: Sunset Beach Grill

Best Chicken Entree: Bongo's Beach Bar and Grill

Best Seafood Entree: Castaway's Bar and Grill

People's Choice: Nervous Nellie's

Best Decorated Booth: Nervous Nellie's

The Taste brought back the beloved 'Vendor Village' that was centered around the always spirited Server Competition. The second runner-up server team was La Ola, the first runner-up server team was Doc Ford's Grill, and the winning server team was Yucatan Beach Stand! The Village featured local artisans and vendors of all kinds.

Fleamasters Watermelon Festival May 25-27

Fleamasters will hold its annual Watermelon Festival Friday, Saturday and Sunday, May 25-27.

Activities will include Speed Eating and Seed Spitting competitions, and the event will feature a Community Showcase Ex-hibition Area, live entertainment, skill games, stilt walker, balloon animals and, of course, locally grown watermelon.

Admission and parking are free.

There is an entry fee for competitions:

Seed Spitting, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, $1 for 3 seeds; enter as many times as you want.

Speed Eating, 2:30 p.m.. Sunday. $10 to enter (adults), $7 (age 16 or under), includes a 2018 Watermelon Festival T-shirt, while supplies last.

Cow milking, $1.
