May programs set at Northwest Regional Library

Next month's roster of activities at Northwest Regional Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:

Adult Programs

Free Legal Clinic - Employment Law

6 p.m., Tuesday, May 1

Florida Rural Legal Services presents a free legal information session regarding employment laws, such as illegal discrimination in the workforce.

English Caf

10:30 a.m., Thursdays, May 3, 17, 24, 31

Free, informal conversation sessions for adult ESOL / ESL students.

Saturday Cinema

1:30 p.m., Saturday, May 5

Enjoy an afternoon out of the house and away from the kids. Watch a popular movie while snacking on popcorn. This program is for adults only and movie ratings will vary.

New Movie Matinee

1:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 16

Join us for a showing of a newly-released-on-DVD movie each month. We'll pop some popcorn and grab one of the hottest newly released DVDs to show. Movie ratings will vary and this program is primarily intended for adult audiences.

Tea Time Talks

6 p.m., Tuesday, May 29

Join us for an evening of books, fun and cookies. Get recommendations from friends, neighbors, and librarians on everything from recent releases to forgotten classics. Tea and cookies will be provided. No registration required.

Storytime

Baby Rhyme Time

10 a.m., Saturday, May 12

During this special storytime for babies up to 18 months, caregivers and babies learn nursery rhymes and fingerplays, interact with puppets, sing, read books and dance.

Family Storytime

10 a.m., Saturday, May 26

Your whole family is invited to this enjoyable, all-ages storytime that encourages the development of prereading skills through songs, rhymes, fingerplays and stories.

Children's Programs

Kids Craft: Mother's Day Card

May 1 - 12

Available during normal library operating hours: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday: 10 a.m. 6 p.m.; Tuesday: Noon 8 p.m.;

Friday, Saturday: 9 a.m. 5 p.m.

Come to the Youth Service area and create a card for mom or another special person in your life. You can make one or many. Available while supplies last.

Kids Read Down Fines

5-7 p.m., Tuesdays, May 1, 15, 29

10 a.m. noon, Saturdays, May 12, 26

Children and teens earn a $2 coupon or credit for every 15 minutes they read in the designated area for a total of $8 in one session. Credit may be applied to cards issued to patrons age 18 and under and applies only to overdue charges.

Toddler-Preschool Movement and Stretch

10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 3

For ages 2-5. Caregivers help their toddlers and preschoolers learn about movement, stretching, and mindfulness in this unique class designed just for them. Please wear comfortable clothing. Sponsored by the Friends of the Northwest Regional Library. Registration begins April 5.

Super Fun Saturday

10 a.m., Saturday, May 5

Come play with us at the library. Activities change monthly and vary from dancing, storytelling, art projects and more. Fun for the whole family. Registration not required.

Kindness Club

4 p.m., Tuesday, May 8

Join us at the library to create kindness in our community. Kids can participate in fun activities designed to encourage kindness & help make the world a better place. For grades K-5. Sponsored by the Friends of Northwest Regional Library. Registration begins April 10.

Discovery Baby

10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 10

For ages up to 23 months. This special interactive program is a play-date designed just for babies and their caregivers. Come and discover many easy literacy activities, rhymes and more. Please dress babies for some messy play. Sponsored by the Friends of Northwest Regional Library. Registration begins April 12.

STEAM Club:

Build-A-Palooza

4:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 15

For children in grades K-5. Come and join us for fun experiments and projects as we explore the world of STEAM (Science, Tech-nology, Engineering, Art and Math.) Please dress appropriately for the creative process (dress for mess.) Registration is required. Sponsored by the Friends of the Northwest Regional Library.

Storybook Festival

10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 17

Do you love Pete the Cat, Llama, Llama, Fancy Nan-cy, Elephant and Piggie? Join us as we celebrate famous storybook characters through fun activities and crafts. Dressing up is encouraged. No registration required. Sponsored by the Friends of the Northwest Regional Library.

Lego Club

2 p.m., Saturday,

Join us for a short story and Lego building activities. Legos provided for use during this program.

Baby & Me Movement

& Stretch

10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 24

Baby trees, mommy goddess and bouncing baby lifts are just some of the things you and your baby will enjoy during this special yoga experience. Bring a yoga mat or towel. Please arrive 15 minutes in advance and check in at the youth services desk to guarantee your spot. Sponsored by the Friends of the Northwest Regional Library. Registration begins April 26.

Discovery Art: Toddlers & Preschool Age

10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 31

For ages 2-5. Children will explore the arts through themed activity stations. Registration is required, as space is limited. Please consider bring an old shirt or smock. Children will be working with paint and will get messy.

Teen Advisory Group

4:15 p.m., Wednesday, May 2

Teens, be the change you want to see in the world. Learn about issues that affect our community and inspire change. Monthly service projects include guest speakers, materials for service projects, friendship and snacks. Teens that participate will receive volunteer hours from the guest organization. Registration is requested.

On the Table:

Mother's Day Painting

Noon 5 p.m., May 7 - 11

For teens, grades 6-12. Treat the special lady in your life to a painting that shows her how much you care. All supplies provided.

Game On!

Monday, May 14

1:30 p.m. - High School Edition

4 p.m. Middle School Edition

For teens in grades 9-12. Now's the time to settle the score. Join in the fun and challenge your friends to a variety of board games and video games. Light snacks provided. Sponsored by the Friends of the Northwest Regional Library.
