Go green

April 19, 2018
Cape Coral Daily Breeze

To the editor:

With Tax Day and Earth Day falling so close to one another, many Floridians find themselves looking for ways to "go green" and save green at this time each year. Tapping into Florida's best resource - the sun - is an excellent way to bring renewable energy to your home, reduce energy use and cut your utility bills.

The sticker price of going solar scares off many people who may otherwise take their homes off the grid, though, fortunately, there's an emerging financing mechanism that can be an excellent option for homeowners. Home Energy Renovation Opportunity (HERO) PACE financing is made possible via a public-private partnership with over 80 Florida communities. HERO empowers homeowners to make eligible improvements, such as solar, and pay for them over time at a competitive, fixed interest rate through an additional, voluntary assessment on their property taxes. In fact, a recent federal study from Lawrence Berkeley National Lab found that PACE programs, like HERO, have been a "uniquely successful" driver of residential solar-power systems in California, the country's largest PACE market.

It's exciting to see more and more homeowners adopt clean energy and saving their hard-earned money in the process. I encourage those interested in going solar to visit www.renovateamerica.com to learn more.
