Softball

Cape Coral 12, Lehigh 6: Tara Striggow had a grand slam as part of her 3-for-4 night at the plate for the Seahawks (12-9). Rachel Manes got the win on the mound, with Jesse Bachman both earning a save and going 2-for-4 with two RBI. Dru Ricco went 3-for-4 with two RBI, and Peyton Helton was 2-for-3 with a double. Cape Coral travels to Golden Gate on Tuesday.

Mariner 6, Riverdale 4: Georgia Waddell and Kennedy Burnham had two hits each for the Tritons (16-4). Hannah Holloway struck out nine batters. Mariner is home against Fort Myers on Tuesday.

Baseball

Bishop Verot 5, Gateway Charter 1: Matt Powell was 3-for-3 and drove in three runs to lead Bishop Verot. The Vikings took a half-game lead for first place in District 4A-5 with the win. Bishop Verot (9-10, 6-1) edged ahead of Sarasota Cardinal Mooney (5-1) for first place. Gateway Charter (16-9 overall) fell to 4-4 in the district. Matt Cedarburg and Zach Thomas drove in the other two Verot runs. Kelle Grau held the Griffins to a run over six innings on four hits and a walk. Grau struck out four. The two teams meet again Wednesday at Gateway.

Riverdale 9, Mariner 6: The Raiders took the lead in the top of the sixth to defeat Mariner. Donnie Goodman, Gavin Walker and Jimmy Meredith each had two hits for the Tritons (10-10). Alex Freeland homered and Louis Alberro had two RBI. Mariner is home against Fort Myers on Tuesday.

District Track and Field

District 3A-11

Multiple event champions at district included Joilynn Lewis of Cape Coral (girls long jump, triple jump) and Precious Tillman of Island Coast (girls discus, shot put). Ryan Ringer of Ida Baker won the boys 400 meters, and was part of the winning 4x400 relay team along with Kennice Beaubrun, Garret Patracca and Brian McKellep

Also winning district titles were Isiah Taylor of North Fort Myers (boys shot put) and Elijah Butz of Mariner (boys 300 hurdles).

The top four finishers in each event advance to the regional meet April 26 at Charlotte High School.

In the team results, Mariner's boys finished third with 75 points and Ida Baker was fourth at 70.5. The Cape Coral girls came in fourth with 62 points.

Bishop Verot's Savannah Nipper was a double district champion in District 2A-12 (discus, shot put).

Lauren Mills of Bishop Verot was the girls 800 meter champion. The Vikings girls also won the 4x400 relay and 4x800 relay events.

Vincent Maldonado of Oasis was the district champion in boys discus.

Baseball

Bishop Verot 8, Oasis 2: Bishop Verot (8-10, 5-1 District 4A-5) moved into a tie for first place in the district. Evan McKenna (3-for-4) doubled and drove in two runs for the Vikings, while Andrew Pflieger (2-for-3) doubled twice and also had two RBI. Cade Middleton allowed one hit and a walk over four scoreless innings for the win, striking out eight. Trey Siciliano was 2-for-3 and drove in both Sharks (12-6, 3-3) runs.

Mariner 2, Lehigh 1: Xzavien Torres' RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted Mariner to the win. Torres was also the winning pitcher with a scoreless inning of relief work. Tritons starter Wade Williamson limited Lehigh to a run on seven hits over six innings. The Tritons (9-9) play Port Charlotte at home Friday.

Softball

Mariner 7, Lehigh 2: Alexis Baker pitched a complete game for the Tritons (14-6). Baker, Marissa Gibbs and Hannah Holloway each had three hits for Mariner, which is home against Port Charlotte on Friday.

Boys Tennis

Bishop Verot 4, Mariner 3: The Tritons ended the regular season 13-5, with district tournament play April 18-19 at Three Oaks.
