Bay Pines National Cemetery to host POW-MIA OREE this Saturday

March 30, 2018
Cape Coral Daily Breeze

The Bay Pines National Cemetery will host the first annual POW-MIA OREE (Prisoner of War Missing in Action Outdoor Remembrance Educational Event) on Saturday, March 31, at 8:30 a.m.

Created by Eagle Scout Joshua Katz, the POW-MIA OREE program is an event that live reads the names of all veterans interred at a national cemetery and places a custom challenge coin on every headstone, for the family members to know their loved one has not been forgotten.

The event will be coordinated by Katz and he will have the support of local Boy Scout Units 285 and 334 of the Greater Tampa BSA Council and other Boy Scouts from the Gulf Stream Council. Under Secretary of Memorial Affairs Randy Reeves will be present to participate in the event.

Officials at the Bay Pines National Cemetery would like to extend an invitation to all veterans' organizations and the public to take this opportunity to remember and honor the men and women who served and gave so much to protect our great nation.

For additional information, please contact the cemetery office Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. by calling 727-319-6479.

Bay Pines National Cemetery is at 10000 Bay Pines Blvd., St. Petersburg, FL 33708
