Cape Coral Daily Breeze

Thirteen young adult authors are coming to Cape Coral High School for a school visit today, March 16. The special event will celebrate reading by giving away 800 free books written by the visiting authors.

They will also visit classrooms to encourage the school's diverse population of 1,600 students to read, write and follow their own dreams.

The one day event, beginning at 7:30 a.m., will end with an outdoor festival at 1:30 p.m. on the school football field featuring the 13 young adult fiction author. The games and activities also planned will happen rain or shine.

"The authors are coming from all over Florida, and Jeff Strand is driving down from Atlanta," said Jamie Ayres, Cape Coral High School English teacher, festival coordinator and one of the featured YA authors at the event. "Many genres are represented and the authors have very diverse backgrounds."

Alex Flinn, a New York Times best-selling author, is also going to be at the festival. Her novel "Beastly" was made into a major motion picture starring Vanessa Hudgens.

"All of the authors have become very popular with our students," Ayres continued. "They can't wait to meet these amazing creative minds in person on March 16th!"

Cape Coral High School received $6,000 in grants from The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools, another $1,000 grant from Suncoast Credit Union and a $2,000 grant from Kiwanis Club of Cape Coral to hold the festival.

The list of authors include: Alex Flinn, Trish Doller, Amy Christine Parker, Wendy Mills, Lucienne Diver, Erica Cameron, Jeff Strand, Christina Farley, Vivi Barnes, Teshelle Combs, Sarah Nicolas, Jenny Keller Ford, and Jamie Ayres.
