The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools hosted a luncheon Thursday, March 8, at The Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre to celebrate the induction of 48 new students into our Take Stock in Children Scholarship Program. Hundreds of applications are received and reviewed by our Take Stock in Children Selection Committee. The Foundation welcomed 12 middle school and 35 high school students into the program this year.

Take Stock in Children is a statewide scholarship program that provides a unique opportunity for deserving students from low-income homes through education. The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools is the local administrator of the program; it offers students college scholarships and caring volunteer mentors. When accepted into the program, the students sign a contract to maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA, stay crime and drug-free, and meet with their mentor regularly. When graduating from high school, having kept this commitment, they receive a four-year college tuition scholarship.

The New Scholar Luncheon is an opportunity for students, along with their parents, to meet their mentors and make a commitment to the Scholarship Program. The luncheon included speakers Dr. Greg Atkins, superintendent of The School District of Lee County and Dr. Mike Martin, president of Florida Gulf Coast University. Mentors Adriana Amaris and Kristie Scott shared inspiring words about the program along with President and CEO of The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools Marshall T. Bower, Esq. and Foundation Board Chairman Gary Griffin.

The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools, Inc. is a private, 501(c) 3 organization established in 1986. Its mission is to enhance and enrich the quality of public education in Lee County for students and educators through programs, resources and experiences made possible through corporate, individual and educational partnerships.
