March 14, 2018
Cape Coral Daily Breeze

The third annual Cape Coral Touch-A-Truck fund raiser is set for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 7, in the South Cape between Cape Coral Street and Vincennes on Lafayette Street.

Admission is free.

Th event will open with a horn free hour for children with autism as well as anyone else who might better enjoy a quieter time while visiting the trucks of all sizes and kinds. A quiet zone with a kiddie table and chairs, as well as coloring books and toy trucks, will be offered as well.

So far, 31 vehicles had been confirmed, with the hope of 35 to 40 participants by the day of the event. Some of the trucks to be featured include a fire department ladder truck; forestry bulldozer, swamp buggy and dump truck; police SWAT car and personal watercrafts; a refrigerator semi-truck and moving truck.

The event will feature vendors selling their wares and food trucks as well as a truck passport for the kids who can get their passports stamped for a chance at a free prize.

Money raised will benefit Fragile X charities and needs with most of the funds raised staying local to help families. Portions will also go to the National Fragile X Foundation and genetic testing and research.

The foundation's mission is to "promote awareness, education and inclusion in the community to enrich the lives of those affected by Fragile X syndrome and to advocate for the rights of individuals affected by Fragile X."

Other nonprofit organizations that help the special needs population will also be apart of the festivities.
