Welter wins more pickleball gold medals

Cape Coral resident Mike Welter recently competed in the 2 Super Senior International Pickle-ball Association tournaments held in Florida this year.

He entered 5 events and won 5 gold medals.

The first SSIPA tournament was held Feb. 23-25 on Sanibel at the Sundiial Resort. Welter won singles (age 65-69 4.5 Skill), mixed doubles (age 60-64 5.0 skill) with Bobbi Little of North Fort Myers and neon's doubles (age 65-59 4.5 skill) with Cape Coral resident Gary Douthat.

Then recently he played in the SSIPA tournament held at Kings Point in Sun City, Fla.

On Monday, March 5, he took the gold medal in mixed doubles again with Little (age 60-64 skill 5.0) and then on Tuesday, March 6, he took gold in men's doubles (age 65-69 skill 4.5) with Doug Findlay of Sun City, Hilton Head.

The SSIPA is part of the USA Pickleball Association for members age 60 and older. Next year the SSIPA is planning to hold 10 tournaments in Florida.
