A slow start proved costly for the Cape High Seahawks in their 7A FHSAA Boys Basketball Championship semifinal game Friday in Lakeland.

Doral Academy defeated the Cape team, 52-28, ending the Seahawks season.

On the year, the Seahawks finished at 24-8.

The Cape squad fell behind early, trailing 17-4 at the end of the first quarter. Although the Seahawks improved in the second quarter, scoring 13 points, Doral Academy increased its lead to 32-17 at the half.

The third quarter proved bad for both teams with the Firebirds scoring the only two points of the period to double-up the Cape, 34-17.

In the fourth and final quarter, the Firebirds built on their lead, outscoring the Seahawks 18-11 to secure the win.

Doral Academy took a 32-2 record in the 7A state final Saturday and defeated Fort Walton Beach Choctawatchee, 43-38.
