Calusa Fitness to hold grand opening March 24

Calusa Fitness, which specializes in group classes, CrossFit and personal training, will be holding its grand opening Saturday, March 24, from 9-11 a.m. The new fitness center is located at 871 Lafayette St., in Cape Coral.

Owned by Gina and Ben Bollman, the gym will bring "top-notch training to Cape Coral."

Fort Myers, Cape Hooters blood drives March 24

The Fort Myers and Cape Coral Hooters locations will be hosting blood drives for Lee Health Blood Center Saturday, March 24. The Pints for Pilsners Blood Drive will take place at the Hooters of Fort Myers, 4411 Cleveland Ave., from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and at Cape Coral Hooters, 3120 Del Prado Blvd., from 3-6 p.m. Those who donate a pint will receive a free pilsner draft of beer.

Young named new fire chief for Lee County Port Authority

The Lee County Port Authority has named Tracy Wayne Young as chief of the Aircraft Rescue & Fire Fighting department. He will be responsible for managing all ARFF services including the planning and coordination of aircraft rescue, firefighting, medical response, fire safety, disaster preparedness and development of training programs for the 42-member department at Southwest Florida Interna-tional Airport and Page Field in Fort Myers.

Young's fire-rescue career spans 26 years as a firefighter for the United States Air Force Emergency Services. Since 2009, he served as the deputy fire chief at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Fire Emergency Services in Dayton, Ohio, where his responsibilities included administration and strategic planning of all firefighting, rescue, fire prevention, public education and advanced life support emergency medical services. From November 2015 to March 2017, Young served as fire chief for Wright-Patterson AFB during its fire chief's deployment. He also worked for the Mad River Township Fire Depart-ment, City of New Carlisle Fire Division and the Bethel Township Fire Department, all located in Clark County, Ohio.

Young has a bachelor's degree in fire science from Columbia Southern University in Alabama. He holds many certifications including Firefighter I & II, Airport Firefighter, Fire Officer IV, Fire Instructor III and Fire Inspector III. He is also certified as a paramedic by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians and received the Chief Fire Officer designation from the Center for Public Safety Excellence.

Flexport and Western Global Airlines announce partnership

Western Global Airlines has announced that it has entered into a three-year agreement with Flexport to provide dedicated 747-400 freighter scheduled service between Hong Kong and Los Angeles beginning on April 5.

The initial service starting in April will be roundtrip twice per week between Hong Kong and Los Angeles growing to three times per week in September.
