27th Annual Mullet toss Championship March 10

The Greater Pine Island Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring of the 27th annual Southwest Florida Mullet Toss Championship. This year's event will be held on March 10 at the Matlacha Community Park, 4577 Pine Island Road, NW, in Matlacha.

Festivities will begin at 11 a.m. and run until 5 p.m. Registration for participants of the Mullet Toss competition will begin at 10 a.m. and the first toss will be made by special guest Carol Polis, the first female professional boxing judge in the world, at 11 a.m. Polis is also the author of "The Lady is a Champ" and she will be available to discuss her career in the boxing world. Copies of her book may be purchased.

Local chefs will be participating in a contest to determine who makes the best "Fish Dip." The public will be the judges. The tasting will begin at 12 p.m. until 2 p.m.

The winner will be announced at 2:30 p.m.

The Pine Island Kiwanis "Fish Drop" will begin at 4 p.m.

Tickets for may be purchased at the event, Greater Pine Island Chamber of Commerce Welcome Center, Winn-Dixie in St. James City or Century 21 Real Estate Office also in St. James City.

Noted Pine Island artist Mel Meo, recent recipient of the Greater Pine Island Chamber of Commerce Al Mills Citizen of the Year award, will be displaying and selling her artwork as well as selling and signing the official 2018 "Eat More Mullet" Mullet Toss T-shirts that she designed.

Entertainment throughout the day will be by The Coastal Connection Bank

Among the vendors that will be participating in the event are Olde Fish House Marina Restaurant, Shark Tooth Fairy, CW Fudge Factory, Bert's Pine Bay Gallery, Uni-scape Landscaping, Matlacha Hookers, Budweiser, Dream Vacations and many more!

Funds raised by the Mullet Toss and Kiwanis "Fish Drop" benefit local charities, support organizations and people in need in the Greater Pine Island area.
