January 31, 2018
Cape Coral Daily Breeze

On Feb. 14 at 6:30 p.m., the Garden Club of Cape Coral will host a presentation by Pascha Donaldson, Cape Coral Friends of Wildlife entitled, "The Burrowing Owls of Cape Coral Our Official City Bird!"

The Garden Club of Cape Coral will travel to Marie Selby Botanical Gardens in Sarasota on Feb. 17, and is opening the trip to the public. The bus will depart from the Coralwood Mall at 7 a.m. Please arrive early so we can depart on time. The club will return to Cape Coral about 3:30 pm. The cost for the day is $53 per person, which includes the garden tour and bus transportation

The Marie Selby Botanical Gardens is the only botanical garden in the world dedicated to the display and study of epiphytes, especially orchids and bromeliads, and their canopy ecosystems, with a focus on botany, horticulture and environmental education. Ongoing research and exploration for tropical plants attracts worldwide attention of international scholars and plant enthusiasts.

Attendees will spend their time enjoying a docent-led walking tour of the gardens (prior to public admission), followed by time to enjoy the gardens, a tour of the home, gift shop and rare exhibit of Andy Warhol's "Flowers." Lunch will be on your own at The Cafe Restaurant, which has soups, salads, sandwiches, desserts and beverages.

Plans are well underway for another successful Annual March in the Park event on Saturday, March 10 and interested vendors are asked to contact Ginny Huffer at 239-257-2654.

The Garden Club of Cape Coral monthly meetings will be held at the Kiwanis Club, 360 Santa Barbara Boulevard, Cape Coral. There is on-site parking. The Garden Club of Cape Coral meets the second Wednesday of the month (excluding June, July and August).

For more info contact Garden Club of Cape Coral members, Donna Schneider 507-301-2542 or Lois Luber 315-529-1815.
