Water conservation

January 19, 2018
Cape Coral Daily Breeze

To the editor:

I have only lived here for a couple years but I'm amazed that Cape Coral doesn't take water conservation seriously. As our beautiful city rapidly grows, I watch truck after truck bringing in sod for new homes and it is clear to me we won't have enough water for all these lawns.

So why doesn't Cape Coral require "xeriscaped" front lawns on all new homes? You can't put fences up in the front yard or use it for anything but to look at it or park a vehicle on it, yet sprinklers keep wasting all this water.

Also require low flow toilets on all new construction. California does a rebate program, and it has reduced water usage by 25 percent in one year!

I hope the leaders of this great city take action on this matter for now and more importantly the future of this rapidly growing city.
