Wee Play Therapy Inc. clinic opens in Cape Coral

Wee Play Therapy Inc., a pediatric speech, occupational and physical therapy clinic, has opened in Cape Coral at 1326 S.E. 47th St.

Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and after hours by appointment. In addition to evaluations and therapy, the clinic offers parent support groups, feeding therapy clinics, fine motor classes and educational classes for caregivers.

Paloma Minaya joins MLGS

Hersch and Hill to host free Florida residency and estate planning workshops with tax law update

Florida Bar board-certified wills, trusts and estates attorneys Craig R. Hersch and Michael B. Hill, partners with Sheppard, Brett, Stewart, Hersch, Kinsey & Hill, P.A., will host free Florida residency and estate planning workshops from 2 to 4 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 1, at Faith United Methodist Church, 15690 McGregor Blvd., in Fort Myers, and again on Friday, Feb. 2, at Sanibel Community House, 2173 Periwinkle Way on Sanibel Island.

The workshop will update attendees on the new tax and is an essential educational tool for Florida residents or those considering Florida residency to learn about Florida estate law and valuable estate planning techniques. Topics will include:

Mulch retires from LaQuinta Inn & Suites

Randy Charran has been named the new general manager of the award-winning LaQuinta Inn & Suites Bonita Springs / North Naples.

Charran takes over from Linda Mulch, a longtime Southwest Florida hotelier whose parents Don and Dee Brownfield managed Cape Coral's first hotel called The Nautilus in the early 1960s.

"My retirement is bittersweet," says Mulch, who spent her childhood growing up at the Nautilus property before Cape Coral even had an elementary school.

Under Mulch's leadership, the 87-room LaQuinta Inn in Bonita Springs garnered top awards. Mulch was named General Manager of the Year twice for the region that includes 50 LaQuinta hotels. She is well-known in the hospitality industry in Southwest Florida over the past three decades, having opened the hotel that is now the Crowne Plaza in Fort Myers in 1987.

A native of Guyana, a country in South America, Charran obtained a math degree from the respected Baruch College in New York City, one of the top accounting schools in the nation. He moved to Florida in 2005 and became the controller at the Outrigger Beach Resort in Fort Myers Beach.

Charran, 40, became assistant general manager of the LaQuinta Inn & Suites in Bonita Springs in 2016.

Valenzuela joins Physicians Primary Care of Southwest Florida

Dr. Jorge Valenzuela has joined Physicians' Primary Care of Southwest Florida as an internal medicine physician. He earned his doctor of medicine degree from the Universidad Autonoma de Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. His residency was completed at Woodhull Medical and Mental Health Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., where he helped implement the Patient Centered Medical Home training as part of the Internal Medicine program.

Valenzuela, who has worked as a primary care physician in Fort Myers for the past five years, will see patients at the Fort Myers Family and Internal Medicine office at 7381 College Parkway.

Bruno's of Brooklyn Italian Eatery to host 'Cannolis, Cops and Canines' Jan. 22

Have a feast of succulent food delivered right to your plate during the "Cannolis, Cops and Canines," Monday, Jan. 22, from 6-9 p.m. at the popular Bruno's of Brooklyn Italian Eatery in Fort Myers.

All proceeds from the event will benefit Gulf Coast Humane Society and its shelter animals, with a limit of 60 tickets sold on a first-come, first-serve basis.

During the evening, Lee County Undersheriff Carmine Marceno and chef Calcedonio Bruno will be cooking live with all the food delivered right to the plates of all the attendees.

The evening will feature an auction for a private cooking class at Bruno's, door prizes, a raffled basket, GCHS puppies on the patio to meet and a plate being stacked with the best food out there.
