Cape Animal Shelter, Fathoms to host New Year Yappy Hour Dec. 29

The Cape Coral Animal Shelter and Fathom's Restaurant invite the public to join them Friday, Dec. 29, between 5 and 7 p.m. for the monthly Yappy Hour. This is an opportunity for the community and their pets to start the New Year with a preview party and enjoy an evening of outdoor entertainment.

Fathom's Restaurant and Bar will be providing beer and wine for the nonprofit organization to receive all proceeds to help fund the building of a shelter for pets in need.

Yappy Hour is an ongoing event held the last Friday each month. This month's theme is a New Year's Preview party and guest are welcome to dress up for the occasion with their best dog party outfits to begin an early celebration of 2018.

Fathom's Restaurant and Bar located at 5785 Cape Harbour Dr, Cape Coral is a modern casual all day restaurant and serves international cuisine with authentic flavors.

The Cape Coral Animal Shelter is currently raising funds to create a non-profit, no-kill animal shelter. The organization is dedicated to engaging a special bond between people and animals by means of adoption services, medical care, education and training for the prevention of cruelty and abandonment. The shelter will provide a safe place where animals will receive the care they need and remain until they are placed in a qualified, forever home.

More information on the shelter can be found at www.capecoralanimalshelter.com.

Golisano Children's Hospital again named 'Top Hospital'

For the second year in a row, Lee Health's Golisano Children's Hospital of Southwest Florida has been named a Top Children's Hospital by The Leapfrog Group. Only 10 children's hospitals in the country - four in Florida - earned this prestigious distinction, which highlights each hospital's highest commitment to safety and quality care of children.

The selection of Top Children's Hospitals is based on the results of the 2017 Leapfrog Hospital Survey. Performance across many areas of hospital care is considered in establishing the qualifications for the award, including inpatient care management, medication safety, and infections and injuries. The rigorous standards are defined in each year's Top Hospital Methodology.

In May, Golisano Children's Hospital moved into its new, child-friendly and state-of-art-facility located next to HealthPark Medical Center on Bass Road. Previously a "hospital within a hospital" at HealthPark Medical Center, the new seven-story facility encompasses 300,000 square feet including Level II and Level III neonatal intensive care units, a Regional Perinatal Intensive Care Center, dedicated pediatric emergency services and a state-of-the-art Pediatric ICU.
