Admirals edge ‘Blades in OT, 3-2

November 28, 2017
Cape Coral Daily Breeze

Trevor Mingoia netted a hat trick which included the game-winning goal in overtime to lead the Norfolk Admirals (5-13-1-0, 11 pts) to a 3-2 win over the Florida Everblades (14-2-1-1, 30 pts) Saturday night at the Norfolk Scope. The loss snaps a six-game win streak for the Everblades, but they do earn a point in the standings.

Halfway through the first period, the Everblades took advantage of a power play to grab a 1-0 lead. Cycling the puck around inside the attacking zone, Gus Young fired a shot through traffic that hit the stick of Stephen MacAulay, the change of direction proved to be just enough as the puck bounced right past Norfolk goaltender Jamie Murray.

That lead would not last long however as Norfolk would need less than five-minutes to tie the game at 1-1.

In the second period, the 'Blades once again took a one-goal lead, when Nolan LaPorte scored.

Norfolk tied the game up at 2-2, taking advantage of a power play chance midway through the third period. Trevor Mingoia scored the goal.

In overtime, Trevor Mingoia crossed into the Everblades zone and ripped a shot from right wing circle past Callum Booth, securing the 3-2 victory for Norfolk.

Returning to the ice next Thursday night, the Florida Everblades will now head to the Bon Secours Wellness Arena to take on the South Division rival Greenville Swamp Rabbits. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Everblades 4, Admirals 1: Michael Kirkpatrick scored a goal and added an assist while Martin Ouellette made 40 saves to help lead the Florida Everblades (14-2-0-1, 29 pts) to a 4-1 victory over the Norfolk Admirals (4-13-1-0, 9 pts) Friday night at the Norfolk Scope.
