FGCU men top St. Francis Brooklyn

The FGCU men's basketball team (5-2) never trailed and dominated St. Francis Brooklyn (1-5) Sunday night, 75-51, as the Eagles posted their third win in as many days to wrap up the Homewood Suites FGCU Shootout at Alico Arena.

Christian Terrell led all scorers with 20 points, while Antravious Simmons tallied a season-best 15 points on 7-9 shooting to go along with seven rebounds. Ricky Doyle rounded out a trio of double-figure scorers for the Eagles with 10 in just 18 minutes, going 5-7 from the floor.

The Eagles will wrap up their portion of the Homewood Suites FGCU Shootout today when they welcome Webber International to Alico Arena for a regional-site game at 7 p.m. The NAIA member is 3-2 on the year, but has dropped relatively close games already this season to ASUN institutions Stetson (98-89) and Jacksonville (88-70).

FGCU 70, Navy 54: A dominant second-half effort at both ends of the floor for the FGCU men's basketball team (4-2) led the Eagles to a 70-54 win over Navy (4-3) as part of the Homewood Suites FGCU Shootout Saturday night at Alico Arena.

FGCU was led by Brandon Goodwin with a game-high 19 points, while Zach Johnson added 17 points and Christian Terrell rounded out the backcourt triumvirate with his third career double-double behind 12 points and a season- and game-best 10 rebounds.

FGCU 79, Denver 71: Behind a career night from RaySean Scott Jr. and a game-high 20 points from Zach Johnson, the FGCU men's basketball team (3-2) opened the Homewood Suites FGCU Shootout with a 79-71 win over Denver (1-3) Friday night at Alico Arena to snap the Eagles' mini two-game losing streak.

Scott Jr. scored a career-high 15 points to go along with a career- and team-best eight rebounds off the bench as he made seven of his eight field-goal attempts and added a block in a career-high 26 minutes. Johnson scored 11 of his 20 in the 1st half, and matched a career high with four steals.

Brandon Goodwin and Christian Terrell both scored 16 points and had four rebounds, while Terrell dished out a game-high-tying five assists and Goodwin added three helpers as the Eagles shot 48.1 percent (26-54) from the floor, including a season-high nine 3-pointers - which proved crucial against Denver's 3-2 zone.

Women's basketball

FGCU 72, Belmont 65: Erica Nelson scored a season-high 19 points, but the FGCU women's basketball team fell to Belmont 75-65 in the finale of the Play4Kay Showcase at Mandalay Bay on Saturday night.

With the loss, FGCU (6-2) finished fourth among eight teams in the tournament. The Eagles will be back in action on Dec. 3 at Abilene Christian. Belmont (5-2) finished third.

FGCU got the bulk of its scoring from Nelson and Rosemarie Julien as the duo combined for 35 of the team's 65 points.

Nelson shot 7-for-15 from the field for her 19 points while adding four rebounds and two assists. Julien shot a perfect 6-for-6 from the field, including a 4-for-4 performance from 3-point range, to finish with 16 points.

Outside of those two, Chandler Ryan scored a season-high seven points in seven minutes off the bench. She made 5-for-5 from the foul line and did all of her damage over the game's final 12 minutes.

Ohio State 104, FGCU 62: The FGCU women's basketball team fell victim to a 24-0 run by #8 Ohio State in the opening quarter of a 104-62 loss in the semifinals of the Play4Kay Showcase on Friday at Mandalay Bay.

The loss was the first of the season for FGCU (6-1).

Ohio State's Kelsey Mitchell, who scored a game-high 34 points, finished 7-for-11 from 3-point range to pass UConn's Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis for the NCAA's all-time career record in made 3-point field goals. She now has 402.

FGCU was led by Taylor Gradinjan and Rosemarie Julien, who scored 15 points apiece and produced all of their points from the 3-point line.

FGCU 89, DePaul 84: China Dow and Rosemarie Julien combined for 48 points to lead the FGCU women's basketball team to an 89-84 upset of #21 DePaul in overtime on Thursday in the opener of the Play4Kay Showcase at Mandalay Bay.

The win was FGCU's sixth in six games. DePaul falls to 3-2.

Offensively, Dow poured in a game and season-high 26 points while adding nine rebounds, three steals and one assist. She finished 6-for-11 from the field and 14-for-15 from the foul line.

Julien assisted Dow with 22 points, three rebounds and two steals.
