Boys Basketball

Cape Coral 71, Dunbar 40: Cape Coral (1-0) dominated Monday's game at Dunbar, leading by as many as 40 points. Bryan Markovich scored 23 points and Harwin Francois 22 to lead the Seahawks. Jonnathan Moreno added 12 points. The Seahawks have their first District 7A-10 game Tuesday at North Fort Myers.

Fort Myers 83, Ida Baker 78: The Bulldogs came out on the short end of a tough match-up at Fort Myers in the year's first game despite a game-high 31 points from Stephen Hawkins and 29 from Corey Friar. Ida Baker's home opener is Thursday against Cypress Lake.

Bishop Verot 50, South Fort Myers 46: Trailing 41-31 through three quarters, the Vikings dominated the fourth period 19-5 to pick up the season-opening victory at South Fort Myers. Andrew Shepherd led the Vikings in scoring with 15 points, including three 3-pointers, while Gabe Garcia scored 10. Josh Schwartz had 11 rebounds. Bishop Verot has its first district game Tuesday at St. John Neumann.

Palmetto Ridge 73, North Fort Myers 32: The Red Knights dropped their opener on the road. Next up is a home game against district rival Cape Coral on Tuesday.

Charlotte 77, Ida Baker 6: Ida Baker has its home opener Tuesday against Lemon Bay.

Boys soccer

Cape Coral 8, Island Coast 0: Jose Parra scored four goals to lead the 8-0 Seahawks past Island Coast. Jacob Jiminez had a goal and an assist, Cooper Stone, Han Yang and Adao Miranda netted a goal each, and Nick Wlodarczyk contributed three assists. Antonio Garcia got the shutout win in goal. Cape Coral plays at Immokalee on Tuesday, then has an early season showdown with archrival Mariner at home on Friday.

Tuesday, Nov. 21

Boys soccer

Mariner 5, Lehigh 1: Down 1-0 at the break, Mariner rolled to victory with goals from five different players. Leo Perez had a goal and an assist, TJ McKay scored his 15th goal of the season, John Franco had a goal and an assist, Robert Franco scored a goal, Nathan Lopez had a goal, and Pedro Reyes had three assists. The Tritons (6-0) played and won six matches in eight days going into the Thanksgiving break.

Cape Coral 5, Estero 2: Juan Parra had two goals and an assist as the Seahawks improved to 7-0. Wildro Pierre and Jacob Jiminez each notched a goal and an assist, Hanhee Yang scored a goal, and Nicholas Wlodarczyk had two assists. Antonio Garcia-Castro had 10 saves in goal for Cape Coral.

Fort Myers 9, Island Coast 1: Freshman Jose Rojas scored for the Gators (0-4) on an assist by Carlos Marvez.

Girls soccer

Bishop Verot 7, Gateway Charter 0: Nina Gulati scored three goals and Nicole Gulati had two goals and two assists to pace the Vikings to the District 2A-12 victory. Bishop Verot (5-2, 2-0) also got a goal and an assist from Lander Peck, and a goal from Julie Taglieri.

Mariner 8, Lehigh 0: Junior Taylor Yount remained red hot, scoring five goals in the victory. It was the fifth game in a row in which Yount has scored at least three goals in a game. Senior captain Karleigh Acosta had two goals and an assist, and junior Michelle Vidal had a goal and an assist in a night when the Tritons (5-1-1) fired 32 shots on goal. Senior goaltender Acelya Aydogmus posted her sixth consecutive shutout.

North Fort Myers 0, Gulf Coast 0

Girls basketball

Fort Myers 72, Cape Coral 23: The Seahawks slipped to 1-1 on the season.

Riverdale 57, Mariner 18: The Tritons dropped their season opener against a 2-0 Riverdale squad. Senior Alyson Smith scored eight points for the Tritons.
