Northwest Regional Library schedules activities for next month

Next month's roster of activities at Northwest Regional Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:

Adult Programs

Free Legal Clinic - Education Law

6 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 5

Florida Rural Legal Services presents a free legal information session regarding education law, such as the rights of Exceptional Student Education students and children protected by Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and student rights in disciplinary matters.

English Caf

10:30 a.m., Thursdays, Dec. 7, 14

Free, informal conversation sessions for adult ESOL/ESL students.

Introduction to Gelli Plates

2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 16

Get creative with us. Make fantastic, colorful monoprints using Gelli Plates, paint and stencils. No experience required, open to teens and adults. Registration is required.

New Movie Matinee

1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 20

Join us for a showing of a newly-released-on-DVD movie each month. We'll pop some popcorn and grab one of the hottest newly released DVDs to show. Movie ratings will vary and this program is primarily intended for adult audiences.

Storytime

Toddler Tales

10:15 & 11:15 a.m., Monday, Dec. 4

For ages 18-36 months. This interactive and active time for toddlers and their caregiver is designed to advance prereading and social skills. Space is limited to 15 children per class. Children must be registered for each class individually.

Baby Rhyme Time

10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 6

10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 9

During this special storytime for babies up to 18 months, caregivers and babies learn nursery rhymes and fingerplays, interact with puppets, sing, read books and dance.

Preschool Storytime

10:15 & 11:15 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 7

Your preschooler will build relationships with other children, books, and the library in a storytime designed specifically for them. Space is limited to 15 children per class. Children must be registered for each class individually.

Children's Programs

Kindness Club

4:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 5

Join us at the library to create kindness in our community. Kids in grades 3 - 5 can participate in fun activities designed to encourage kindness and help make the world a better place. Sponsored by the Friends of Northwest Regional Library. Registration begins Nov. 7.

Kids Read Down Fines

10 a.m. - Noon, Saturday, Dec. 9

5-7 p.m., Tuesdays, Dec. 12, 26

Children and teens earn a $2 coupon or credit for every 15 minutes they read in the designated area for a total of $8 in one session. Credit may be applied to cards issued to patrons age 18 and under and applies only to overdue charges.

Lego Club

2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 9

Join us for a short story and Lego-based games and activities. Children can also build and share a Lego creation. Lego pieces provided.

"The Polar Express" at the Library

5 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 12

All aboard "The Polar Express." Wear your pajamas, and join us for this classic Christmas storybook with a special twist. Families work together to make very own train car out of cardboard and then choo-choo over to enjoy an interactive reading of this holiday favorite. All materials provided. Sponsored by the Friends of Northwest Regional Library. Registration begins Nov. 14.

Homeschool Connection: Asia

10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 13

Home-schoolers, join us as we read around the world. Share a book, play a game from another country, and learn about all the resources your library has to offer. Visit the Northwest Regional Library for suggested reading for this special program. Registration is requested as space is limited. For children ages 5-12. Registra-tion begins Nov. 15.

Toddler - Preschool

Winter Wonderland

10:30 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 14

For ages 2 to 5. Celebrate the most wonderful time of the year with us. Caregivers help their children with age-appropriate, winter-themed crafts and activities. No registration required.

Kidspace On the Table Craft:

Winter Fun, Dec. 15 - 29

Available during normal library operating hours: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday: 10 a.m. 6 p.m.; Tuesday: Noon 8 p.m.; Friday, Saturday: 9 a.m. 5 p.m.

Join us in the kidspace for simple crafts that celebrate wintertime. All supplies provided.

Teen Programs

TAG - Teen Advisory Group**

4:15 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 6

For students in grades 6 - 12. Here's your chance to make a difference in your world, from right here at your local library to the larger global community. The Northwest Regional Library is starting a new Teen Advisory Group, or TAG, to get its amazing young citizens involved. So TAG, you're it. Come join us for fun, friends, food and, of course, some rewarding and worthwhile community service.
