The Nickel Ride has come to town. ?Southwest Florida's fastest growing transportation solution will begin service in Cape Coral starting Friday, Dec. 1.

The all-new ride service will be welcomed with a short ceremony and ribbon-cutting at 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 1 at BackStreets Sports Bar. Drink specials will be available. Additionally, anyone who catches a ride on Dec. 1 will receive drink tokens for BackStreets Sports Bar, Dolphin Key Resort and Tiki Hut Bar & Grill, and Dixie Roadhouse.

Riders who snap a photo during their Nickel Ride adventure can post the image on the official Nickel Ride Facebook page to win prizes.

What sets The Nickel Ride apart? Every ride is 100-percent free and eco-friendly. Request a ride by telephone by calling 855-WE-R-FREE (855-937-3733), and get whisked away on an all-electric Polaris Gem car in minutes. Available year-round, every vehicle in The Nickel Ride fleet accommodates up to 5 passengers and ensures efficient and effortless pickup and drop-off.

The Nickel Ride will transport people within the Cape Coral Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) boundary that stretches from the Cape Coral Parkway to the bridge to Palm Tree Boulevard, several blocks of Del Prado Boulevard, north Southeast 46th Lane, Miramar Street to the south, and portions of Coronado Parkway up to the old Cape Coral golf course.

"The Nickel Ride coming to South Cape was born out of a necessity that has transpired from the years of sustained growth the South Cape and surrounding area has seen," said Nickel Ride founder and CEO Judah Longgrear.

"With nearly 65 businesses in the South Cape, we feel there is a great opportunity to provide an alternative solution for guest and tourist experiencing the city," said Longgrear.

How does the Nickel Ride keep its services free? Every vehicle in the Nickel Ride fleet is a host for local advertisers and business owners. Current advertisers include BackStreets Sports Bar, Dixie Roadhouse, Dolphin Key Resort and Tiki Hut Bar & Grill, Pioneer Printing and Signs, Cape Coral Farmers Market, and Zak's Jewelry.
