Parks Director Pohlman to retire

Cape Coral Parks & Recreation Director Steve Pohlman will be retiring from the city effective Thursday, Aug. 31. According to the announcement from the city, Pohlman will be on leave until that date.

City Manager John Szerlag has appointed Parks Superintendent Kerry Runyon as acting Parks & Recreation director until the position is filled on a full-time basis. The announcement states that Szerlag intends to conduct a national search for a new director.

"Steve Pohlman served as Cape Coral's Parks & Recreation director for 18 years," said Szerlag. "Many major accomplishments in quality of life areas are attributed directly to the efforts of Mr. Pohlman and his desire to make Cape Coral a better city."

Pohlman was charged Sunday, Aug. 20, with DUI unlawful blood alcohol .15 or higher or with person under 18, hit and run leave scene of crash involve damage to property and DUI with damage property - all misdemeanors, according to jail booking records. He has a court date set for Nov. 6.
