Cape Council approves utility-related PDP change

In the wake of an hours-long debate regarding the old golf course land use change, Cape Coral City Council dealt quickly with an amendment to a residential Planned Development Project named Stonewater at the intersection of Nelson Road and Tropicana Parkway at Monday night's meeting.

The PDP was amended by removing two parcels from the 200-acre tract that were recently acquired by the city for support of the North 2 Utilities Extension Project. Land use for the two parcels had to be changed from commercial activity center to public facilities and a zoning change to institutional in separate hearings.

Council also approved vacation of platted alley and underlying public utility easements for property to be developed commercially at the corner of Veterans Parkway and Santa Barbara Boulevard in to reconfigure several parcels into a larger one.

Zoning from professional office to pedestrian commercial was approved for property at 3523 Del Prado Blvd. to expand commercial use of an existing building on the site.

A request to amend the zoning map to multi-family residential for a parcel at 912 SW 39th Terrace was approved by council because surrounding property is developed for multi-family and commercial uses. The property is suitable for up to 10 residential units and faces the Cape Coral Public Library off Mowhawk Parkway.

No objections to any of the above actions was delivered during each public hearing comment period.

In other business, Council has scheduled a special meeting at 4:30 p.m. next Monday that is required each year to put city assessments on the Lee County tax bill.

A special meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 7, which is the first mandatory public hearing in the budget approval process.

Another special meeting will be held on Monday, Sept. 11, at 3 p.m. to be followed by a regular council meeting at 4:30 p.m.
